I know this has been covered in a few threads before, but none of them were very clear. I want to know form someone who knows exactly what I am asking for to answer this: On a 1990 Nissan 240SX, when the engine is at ZERO degrees top dead center, as in, the crank pulley red notch (the second from the left, if looking at the engine from the front) is aligned with the needle on the block, and the number one piston is UP, what should the position of the keymark on the cam sprocket be? Should it be pointing at 12 o'clock? Should it be pointing at 9 o'clock? Should it be pointing at 3 o'clock? As far as I understand this situation is unique, and cannot be 180 degrees off because there is only one position those two gears can be in, when the number one cylinder is up and the engine is at 0 degrees TDC. I need the answer desperatly, I have looked in the FSM, there are no clues to answer this question there.

The dowel pin on the cam should be pointing straight up through the center lines of the crankshaft and cam and not straight up because the engine sits at an angel. The cam lobes on #1 cyl. should be pointing down ward with the rocker arms in the relaxed position and the valves closed. There is a webbing in the head under the cam that runs between the cam towers and you can align the lobes of the cam to these webbings.
