Hey all, ive been looking for a long time, and i still havent found any real carbon fiber parts for my interior. ive read in a few magazines about someone building parts like canards and even covers to playstation2's, and i wanna do something like that. does anyone know where to get raw carbon fiber? ive been to a few websites, but all they sell it in is the tiles, where its like already been hardened and isnt moldable. my friend one time showed me a website where i could buy the carbon fiber weave, and cut it, mold it, and harden it. anyone know how hard it would be to build inerior parts like dash, center console, etc. etc.? what would i use for a mold?

im not sure if this is the place to post this, but i couldn't see where it would fit in any other forum.

THANKS ALL!

Here's a few...http://www.shopmaninc.comhttp://www.fibreglast.com

Ive seen the cloth at industrial supply and aircraft equipment websites.

It would be easy to cover existing parts, but to replace them with parts made completely from CF might be tough. I read a writeup of a guy who covered his engine bay with the CF cloth/resin. Looked pretty cool...

If this is your first time working with laminates, you should practice first on fiberglass before working with something as expensive as carbon.

how hard would it be to make cf cover for the bottom half of the dash for s14? i don't know if i want to go buy a new dash for over 400bux or spend some time and money to fix it by covering it with CF stuff.

If you're doing a layup of carbon fiber and don't have the resins, tools, and the weighing devices, possibly poly bags (if you go the baggied), you can easily spend 400 for just the parts. Not even including the possibility of a bad batch or a contaminated layup. Also it's not just "some" time, it's alot of time. Depending on the conditions (temperature, moisture in the air, etc), your cure times will vary. Go too sassy on the catalysts, you'll be stuck with a bad batch. If you've no experience with laminates and on a pretty limited budget (like $400) and expect results like those you see on those finished CF products, you're in for a real shocker.
