Hey,

Well my Camry's transmission is gone again. I had it replaced with a used trans. with about 50K miles about 4-5 months ago. It only had a 3 month warranty.

Anyways, it wont go in reverse. So I thought its not worth getting it fixed since it has 180K miles and the body is rough. The engine leaks a little oil too. Kind of hard to believe considering its a Camry.

So, I need a replacement car. I'm looking for a 4-door car that is good on gas, reliable, and fun to drive. My budget is around $5K.

Can anyone help me out here? How does a Maxima sound? I30? I did find some under $5K, but dont know if they are good on gas.

Any help would be appreciated. I am not just looking for Maximas or I30s. I am open to anything.

Take care,

Omar

If the 4 doors are necessary, a slightly older Sentra or Altima sounds like it might fit the profile. Check the autotrader or ebay motors for ideas on pricing. A good running second-hand car can easily be had for $5k.

In my local autotrader, 1994 altima are priced from $2995 - $4500 and Sentra are even less!

Just curious, but are 100% sold on the whole 4 door thing? What do you use those extra two doors for anyway? Personally, I look for any excuse to not have more than one passenger in my car if I can help it. Those car-less mofos can walk as far as I'm concerned. ;)

Integra's certainly a nice choice, as are the Maxima and Altima. An older Mazda 626 might be nice and would be within your range. Not too sure how fun to drive, but according to Edmunds they get decent gas mileage.

If not for the whole 4 door thing, you could look at a 240SX or an older Sentra SE-R...much higher fun quotient there.

You got a lot of choices for 4 doors:Nissan: Altima, Sentra, older MaxHonda/Acura: Accord, Civic, integraToyota: Camry, CorrollaSubie 2.5RS, early WRXZoom-Zoom - 626Any of the above would work well/.

The only used American 4 door worth a look-see is an older Taurus SHO. Fun, but not made particularly well.

Sentra with an SR20 will run darn near forever, haul people and stuff, get 30mpg, and do it all in style. A GA16 one would be fine too.. but slow and not terribly fun to do that hauling with.

2nd or 3rd gen maxima!

You could buy two 2nd gens with 5000!

But really, my sister has a third gen ( i have second) the third and second are very fun cars to drive (especially 5-speeds)

Either 2/3 gen Maxima, or a mid-90's G20. It is a 4-cyl but I have heard great things

Yes they are very fun cars to drive. And they have some balls to them as well (my first car was a 1985 max)

Definately look into a G20, 99s are going very cheap now that they are discontinued.

If you get an I30, I advise 97-99 or later and a T. the T's wheels are so much better than the stock ones.

Maximas are a great buy, too.

everything you listed is a good idea.
