i just recently bought a Boss BV7320 and ive got all the wires hooked up.. but i can't figure out why it isn't working.. when i go to start it up it just keeps flashing.. ive figured its somthing with the ground wire.. and when i touch the ground wire with bare metal it just flashes and doesn't come back up.. i can't get the screen to even come up.. there are 2 notes on the page where i am reading the instructions and i am confused in what it is telling me to do... the notes are (1. parking wire must be connected. parking brake must be engaged in order for the mointor to work. 2. use the clip end of the ground wire provided by the manufacturer to connect the mounting screw, use the other end of the ground wire to connect the negative pole of the power source. Otherwise, the video on the screen may flasches) these notes are exactly word for word..  ... please help

How do you have the ground connected on the unit? And the note about the parking brake is probably for watching video on the unit. Most head units have something like this to attempt to prevent people from watching video while driving. And nearly all of those have some sort of work around so that isn't locked out.

i bought a harness to connect to my factory harness so i didn't mess up the factory wiring.. and i have wired them all properly.. i first wired the ground wire to the harness i bought.. and it didn't work so i grounded it to the chassis of the car and that didn't work either.. idk any other ways... the only wire on my harness i bought that isn't wired is an orange wire (illumination dash) there was no wire on my radio that connected to this so i assumed that it is n/a.. i don't know any other ways to try to fix this

When you mounted the ground did you make sure it was in an unpainted area? You need to mount it to bare metal. In my experience it should not be a connection to the OEM harness.

Also that orange wire is to dim the display of the head unit when you turn your headlights on at night, since it is more visible at night. I personally do not like the dimming feature and never connect it.

This ^. The orange wire wont do anything for your issue. I would verify the ground first. Sand down a section of the metal where you attached it to the vehicle if needed. Even if the parking brake lock out isn't connected correctly, you should still have usage of the screen with the exception of watching videos.

Is the metal you connected it to grounded? Metal =/= grounded.

Within 2" of what ground? Do you have a voltage meter or continuity tester? Or perhaps some pictures of the guts of your dash and where you are grounding this head unit?

It was on the actual body of the car..but shouldn't I also be able to hook it up to the grounding wire that comes off the harness

Id have to see the harness, not familiar with what all is entailed in a 350Z.

And what exactly do you mean by body?

OK from what I can see...

Everything you had in your hand up until 0:40 is not the cause of your issue. The only thing that MAY effect functionality in that group is the green parking brake wire. But that should only be when the unit is in DVD or other visual media mode. Just for SnS's, try grounding that green parking brake wire and tell us what happens. Everything else was the dimming wire and all of your in and outs for AV and signal to amps.
At 0:43 is your antennae connection, connect it, or you dont have radio.
Now, I hate to say it, but you may have to check each connection you made on the harness. I personally use crimp caps, the reason being the type of crimps that you used never hold for me for some reason. They either bite straight through the wire and kill it or dont hold enough and they connection eventually wiggles loose.

Id put a fair wager on that parking brake wire being the issue. Maybe the unit has a first time start up feature that requires you to set languages and such but in an AV format. If that wire isnt connected, it wont work. Just speculating here but give it a try. You should be able to simply ground it anywhere but ground it when the unit is already on. Some of those safety features work by sensing a loss of current (like mine). If its connected when the head unit is off and then powered on, it never senses the loss and just reads the same all the time. I fixed this in mine by simply installing a switch inline with the wire.
