Brought my 05 se murano in to the mechanic thinking i needed the tires rotated due to road noise. turns out to be the wheel bearing on the driver side. when i picked it upt the guy said that the ABS light is on and he will see if the warranty covers wheel speed sensors. if he changed the wheel bearing, wouldnt he have caused the broken wheel speed sensor? are these connected to the hub itself? also, the AWD light stays on now. i am assuming that these lights have to do with him changing the bearing. if the wheel speed sensor is replaced, would that cause the AWD light to go off too? need to call this mechanic back tomorrow, so any repsonse is appreciated.

thanks-

Why would rotating the tires reduce road noise?? That makes no sense.

And was this mechanic familiar with Nissans and/or cars with ABS sensors? You might need another mechanic or possibly even the dealer to rectify this one.

Similar event with a GM. The plug at the wheel sensor was on and off several times. When the wheels were turned slowing down or starting to move, the ABS pump was activated for a split second and the sensor lights for ABS and Traction Control came on. The sensor was indicating one front wheel (OBD confirmed which wheel) was either spinning or stopped, depending on whether or not the vehicle was moving or stopped. Either action activates the ABS pump. The plug was disassembled, pins and receptacle cleaned, and plugged back together. No symptoms since.

I'd check the wiring for damage and the plug for correct contacting.

you can have road noise from tires as well as a wheel off balance. it has happened to my altima i owned. after i rotated the tires after many miles of driving, the road noise was gone.

i am guessing these guys screwd up the sensor installing the bearing. if the sensor comes with the bearing, they shouold rpbably put a new bearing in as opposed to changing just the sensor. we'll see... i am waiting for a call from the guy.

thanks-

mechanic who replaced the wheel bearing didn't remove the wheel speed sensor when removing the wheel bearing. If it not removed it will break every time. I would put money on it. If your light was not on when you took it to get repaired then do NOT let them charge you for a new sensor!

they either covered it, or submitted it under my warranty. either way, it was free for me. went back and he replaced the sensor in about 35 minutes... thanks for replies...

I'm having the same problem with my 2007 nissan murano s, both the AWD and ABS lights are on all the time. I plugged in my odbII code reader and all I am getting for codes is a fulty gas cap. So I am wondering if the speed/abs/awd sensor is going bad would it throw a odb code or do you have to read it using a different tool like a TCU code reader? Or could this be a case of tire noise since the vehicle is due for a tire rotation? The AWD lock is not working, you can't lock it in park and the vehicle now handles badly in snowy conditions, seems like there is no traction or that the traction control is not working very well. Also if I do need to replace the abs sensor how do I know which one is bad? I'm gonna check the conections as soon as I get a chance but it seems like I should just replace them since the vehicle is nearing 100,000 miles.
