Fourth gear is probably toast. This was happening to my buddy in third, it just kept popping out. Tore the transmission apart and the third gear was just destroyed.

try it w/ your hand holding the shifter in place

hehe maybe your shift knob is really heavy, your shifter is really easy to move, and the inertia is just throwing it out of gear?

i know it's probably not it but why not post anyways

Actually, it would stay in gear when I held the shifter. But I didn't buy the car. I noticed that 4th had a bit of a grind. The syncros where probably damaged to the point that the shift fork could slide out of gear. I dunno.

I ended up buying a clean, stock fastback. Click me.

I am having a similar problem, I just bought the car w/ SR in it.

The shifter pops out of 4th gear if I accelerate and then let off. I can't really cruise in 4th because of this. Just normal driving it stays fine, hard acceleration it works fine also, it's just when I stop accelerating suddenly it gives me problems and pops out of gear.

The guy I bought it from said the car had a full transmission rebuild within 3000 miles or so, I doubt it could go so fast.

Could this be an adjustment or something?

Of, and if I apply light pressure with my hand, basically just me setting my hand on it, it will stay in gear just fine.

might just be a crappy shifter...theres a bushing that controls the feel of the shifts...also the type of shifter has all to do with it

if you have a firend w/ a C's or B&M shifter, try those and see if it still happens

Sounds like the guy is full of it and the transmission is toast. My 5th gear grinds like a *****. Trannys aren't that expencive. See if he can knock down the price because of it.

transmission popping out of gear is due to a bad synchro or gear. if it were me, i'd tear it apart and rebuild it. but if you dont have experience with rebuilding trannys, buy a new one.

Yeah, he was asking $6000, I offered $5000. No deal.

Oh well, I bought a stock S13, and I'll do it up right.

I've torn apart a Honda B-series transmission. Replaced the input shaft bearing, only to discover the whirring noise I had been hearing was my clutch disc, not the bearing.

Oh well. Good learning experience. I was sweating bullets pulling the gear assemblies out.
