I have been researching subs for a while now, and the place where I got my tints done offered to install 2 12" MTX Jackhammers in a sealed box with a Jackhammer amp for $475. Is this a good deal?

eh its probably decent for someone getting into the car audio game... price doesnt look bad. That equipment would cost ya $450 off crutchfield and that doesn't include wiring or installation. Its a beginners setup.

Someone who does their research could easily build a much louder system for a fraction of that cost. Both new and used. It would just take some time and research.

Give me $475 and i could go on craigslist and buy equipment that would destroy MTX all day long and still have $$ left over. Its gonna take experience to be able to discern between whats good and whats not.... thats why i say get the setup and in the future you can always sell it and upgrade (and make money in the process)

Yeah I agree with fueler. Since it requires no work, research, or time on your part, you can get that setup from the store and call it good.

The thing I'm wondering about, what about the rest of your system? If it's factory, those subs will be a bit much and you could save money by buying less/smaller. Maybe just one sub. Then use the money you save to work on upgrading the rest of your system.

I'm most likely getting the MTX Eliminator setup with one 12" sub, 600W amp, and a nice ported box, all installed and setup for $300 out the door.

That'll be plenty if not too much for my little hatch. I would imagine it'll also be enough for a sealed trunk too, or especially an SUV like yours with an open trunk area.

But yeah, MTX eliminator setup. I know the audio guys could probably source better stuff for around the same price, but for a beginner like me, this is a pretty good deal, installed.
