good information on the oil viscosity vs. temperature there and importance of oil being UP to temperature period.

Yea thats where I have my temp probe mounted zerogrip right in the sump I welded a bung in when the pan was last off. Going right into the drain would be an awsome idea, thats what evo's do I've been told from the factory??

p.s. rs12turbo I think the type of oil cooler you have there is THE most efficient setup available - turbatrol type or something or other, the matrix is telling my brain I remember.....

what is everyone's experience with the oil temp. changes during Daily Driving with an oil cooler vs. DD without an oil cooler?

to me, it seems having an oil cooler when daily driving that the oil would keep warm enough for the reasons stated by Float. Wouldn't a sufficient warm up time for the engine, get the oil warm as well?

Oil takes forever to get hot, even when outside temps are up during daily cruising. People see water temps up and automatically asume their engine is warmed up and ready to be caned, I cringe. I usually have to drive my car for 30mins before I see a substantial increase in temp, even with the oil cooler covered with foil. Get a temp gauge and get a feel for it, If your not tracking the car a thermostat is a good idea.

Quoted for the truth of it.

As was stated it's possible to have the oil TOO cool as well, hence the purpose of the thermostat. Also, the oil NEEDS to get above approx 210°F to properly evaporate the moisture and contaminates out of it.

honestly i wouldnt worry about a oil coole ron a daily driver.. my car come out the garage to go drifting and thats about it the occasional street drive..

this is mostly to prevent over heating of the oil when slaming through the turns at 7k for minutes each run.. plus im usually one to get back in line with minimal cool down as i like to get my moneys worth so the better i can keep the temps the more i can continue to beat on my caR

from the info gathered, i'll probably watch my temp gauge this year, and if i dont ever hit 250, i probably wont bother with an oil cooler unless i start tracking it alot. Thanks again for the help guys.

(btw, got a new radiator coming in next week )
