Post

Hey Folks,

I have a 1991 Q45 that has had the chain guides done and is a good runner. I have been reading the posts here since I got the car a year and a half ago and it's been a great help.
I have done a lot of DIY and saved a ton of dough. Well last week I noticed a puff of steam come out from under the car at a red light and immediately following that, the sweet smell of antifreeze.

I went straight home and inspected as I had already replaced the radiator, thermostat, power flush and upper/lower hoses. The culprit was a 2" hose about 3 1/2" long under the plenum. All I have read here steered toward removing the plenum and replacing all of the hoses and whatever else needs to be replaced.
I have the Plenum, Throttle Body and intake manifolds sparkling like new and the injectors are on their way to D-Werks monday to receive their best service. I have all of the gaskets and hoses but I need to know where to buy the harness for the FI.

Also, I think I got in over my head, is anyone on here a cert. Infiniti tech close to Fremont? If not can you refer me to one near Fremont, Ca. who would be willing to come down for a day and assist in putting it back together? I am willing to pay of course so let me know what you require.
I just want to avoid having to take it apart more than once. I think it would be better just to fork over some Ben Franklins to someone who is well versed at this and I think everyone can use a little extra cash about now!

Please let me know, you can shoot me an email [email protected] and I will reply with my contact information.

Wow its been days and no response!?!?!?!?!

First of all ALWAYS doubt everyone who says they know about your car thats not on NICO and maybe some that are. I always bring my service manual to the mechanic I go to no matter the problem. Make sure to get a estimate before any work is done. And make sure they call you if it will cost extra for parts and/or labor.

For Infiniti techs: Make sure they were factory trained back in 1989 on the Q45. Ask them how many Q45's your model year they work on weekly or monthly.

There are some Nico members close to you and I don't want to post names because I am not sure they would be interested or not but they should see this topic.

It would be difficult to find a certified Q Tech who does home service in Bay Area. I know a tech in Milpitas and he's worked on all my Infinitis before but he owns the shop and does not do home service. There is a Service Advisor at Beshoff Infiniti-San Jose. He seems knowledgeable and there are at least 2 certified techs in their shop. The SA's name is Bernardo Zeballos, work phone (408) 531-3024. Give it a shot. He may know somebody who can help you.

Welcome to NICO.

Beshoff Infiniti-San Jose (Tully and Capitol) has the best facility to work on you Q45. They are top rated and also have the lowest service rate in the Bay Area for Infiniti dealerships. You can check their service pricing on line.

As for the shop in Milpitas, it's Yip's Auto Repair and the owner/technician is Duc Diep. They work primarily with Japanese cars but also handle European and American cars. Phone number is (408) 262-8878. Address is 1335 Minnis Circle (behind Milpitas Police Station). Of course, you cannot expect a loaner car. And Duc may not appear friendly and even sarcastic at times but he knows his trade. Tell him Rod referred you.

Thanks for all of the emails and posts. Maxnix shot me an email with a link (below) to the job ceningolmo did under his plenum. Great pictures so I really don't think I will have too much trouble. Another NICO member who lives right here in Fremont and has done the hose job to his Q has offered to come over and lend a hand if need be.
There is one hard plastic molded hose that runs under and around the intake manifold closest to the firewall (drivers side) which I shattered. Is that a dealership item or do I have to go to Pick-n-Pull?
Also, Maxnix suggested infinityparts.com for the FI harness but I could not find it on their site. Any other suggestions?

Thanks Again,

DrGoodbar

I know they are not in Fremont but I have a good mechanic across the bridge in San Bruno. Richard's Auto Repair. He's done alot of work on my 97' Q45, while it would be good to have someone that is a Q mechanic, the dealship is alot of $$$ compaired to Richard's auto rate of $85 per hour. I know you guys that live in the mid-west and other areas just cringed at that rate, but in the Bay area a MB or BMC dealeship get $240 per hour, I think Peninsula Infiniti is around $175 per hour.

This is an old car and taking it any dealership is going to lead to them wanting to do a boat-load of work, trust me..find a good friendly Japanese-Nissan guy. Barry & David have pretty much figured out most of what my Q has needed the last few years.
