Well, I replaced the mechanical bits of the 99 in order to get her drivable. The car won't start (not even turn over) but other electrics work (except radio sudio). The previous owner had an alarm installed and when the car was wrecked, he had a car stereo guy remove the alarm from the car.

I beleive this the problem-but am not sure. Any ideas? Where should I begin to look to diagnosis the alarm removal procedure? Could it be something else?

My guess is the un installer just removed the alarm module and left starter interrupt relay unhooked from a power source in the process-look up under dash near steering wheel for aftermarket wiring to begin-and have FSM wiring diagram for electrical system handy to trace original power circuit for starter system-this is NOT going to be fun to track down-last resort, get the name of firm who did alarm install and contact them to get help-they should have a "blueprint" for that particular install based on alarm model/car model.

Thanks for the reply qship, you were the one I was hoping for. You were right, they just cut a bunch of wires-what jackasses.

I got it started but the radio has not sound (has power) and the driver's door lock does not work. I think I'm done for the day-this was not the way I wanted to end it!

Glad to hear you got it started! as for the radio=if head unit powers up and still no sound, start inspecting power supply to amps.I wonder if they spliced into door lock circuit to activate lock/unlock feature using the aftermarket alarms remote-trace that circuit also. Most alarm installers are lazy and try to make all connections in the same area they plant the alarm black box so look carefully for aftermarket wiring/relays,splices/connectors.

Where are the amps for a 99? Front and rear? I'm curious as to where to start looking.

There is a wire heading into the center console/radio area that appears to have been part of the alarm-what would that be?

Thanks again for the help!

not sure, but on earlier Bose systems they were attached to each speaker with power trigger and signal wires coming from head unit. The wire you mention.could it have powered a LED alarm indicator placed in console/dash area? Follow it! You need a wiring diagram for your model handy to make things easier! You will figure this issue out!!!!!

More info.

Door lock fixed. Two pairs of wires (from alarm) into the drivers door were cut, severing connection to the driver door lock.

I did the same on a '91 Maxima that I totaled. The body shop gave me a "moment of silence" with her and my toolbox to remove all of my aftermarket stuff... alarm, CD changer, auto-lamp, trunk release solenoid etc. I really felt bad a few months later when I called the junk yard to try to hook someone up with my Bose amps that I knew were good - only to find that this junkyard specialized in "rebuildable" cars and sold the whole car to someone the same day it arrived. I was under the impression that the car would be parted out and hacked accordingly... I know that whoever put that car back together cussed me for days putting all of those wires back together - I think I even just cut some to make it easier to get to other stuff... having no idea that anyone would ever have to fix the mess.

At least you feel bad-that makes me feel better.

Two problems down, one to go.

I'm a little bit confused on the stereo problem-not sure how that would be involved in the alarm install or maybe just a separate problem.
