I installed a K&N filter and there is no fitting for this thing, I just unplugged it and the car runs fine, do you Need this? I know it has something to do with measuring the air temp inside the air box, if I do need this where should I relocate it to?

I don't know off-hand if you need it or not...but I went ahead and just drilled a hole in it to make it fit. Haven't had problems in about 3 months.

I have the K&N FIPK and it has a place for it. Unless you've got some other brand and is using the term K&N for all cold air intakes.

It's not dire, but you do need that sensor. The ECU uses it to measure the temp of the intake air and adjust fuel, timing ,and idle speed along with all the other inputs from other sensors. If there is no place for it to mount, nor can you make a place for it, then try to make sure it's attached to the engine bay somehow and as near to the air filter as possible. Leaving it hang will bang it around as you drive and break it, then you've got more problems.

You don't need it , it's for diagnostics (as I was told) just zip tie it near the cone ....it runs fine like this..... here I'll attach a pic for you:

I'm not sure if you can see it but I have a green zip tie on it.

Is there a noticable difference with the cone filter? cause i figured the stock box is decent.

I've been trying to put a cone filter on mine but I can't seem to get the thing to go on right. Anyone have any install tips on the 89 KA24E? I'd really like to install the new filter, but I can't seem to get it working right.

Yeah I also noticed better mid-high end pull, you can hear the intake sucking in air too.

as for install tips? its straight forward install, take old airbox off, and you should have a MAFS adapter that goes on the MAFS and then put the filter on that.

The mafs adapter I bought was slightly off ... I had to drill out one of the bolt holes a bit larger and put a gasket inbetween the adapter and intake piping (of course with the center open). Works great! And yes there is a difference
