Car: I have a qx4 that has over 200k on it, I believe the transmission is slipping, and I am wondering what I am looking at in cost to fix that. I have a hard time parting with this vehicle.

I have a 2000 qx4 I love. It has over 200k on it now.

I take it to mechanic everytime I hear a sound. I have put alot of money into it.
I put another thousand into it about 3 months ago.
Just learned it now needs valve cover gaskets - both front axles - ps return hose & high pressure hose - ps rack.
I now am feeling like the transmission is slipping. What am I looking at in costs here?

Too, is it worth it to continue putting money into it?
I have a hard time knowing when enough is enough.

junk it and start over as to do above correctly will be 5-6,000 minimum. 200K on that platform is a long life, and the cheap miles are already used up.

I guess it depends on our budget for a replacement... if you have the cash on hand to make it reliable for another year or two, and it's in otherwise good condition, then I don't know that I'd just scrap it. Anything is fair game at 200k, but you probably know the car as well as anyone.

I think it's time to get a good professional assessment of what needs to be done now, what's going to need to be done in the near future, and get some solid numbers to work with.
