I love nissans but I think I made the biggest mistake buying this nissan. I have taken it to the dealship so many times and they always say they fixed something but they never do. Anyways the recent problem I have is that everytime I press the gas pedal it makes a scraping noise from the front right side and when i press the pedal hard it stops the noise but starts again when I press the gas pedal. The dealer says they cant replicate the noise so cant do anything about it. I talked with another mechanic but he told me that I need to change the brakes and both of the front axels. I want to make sure before I waiste the money.

Please Help, I dont know what to do.

Thanks in advance for your help

Things to look for: noisy drive belts, A/C idler bracket possibly cracked, exhaust gusset bracket cracked(Y-pipe), bank 1 cat heat shield rattles, trans. air dam damaged, possible secondary timing chain noisy(whining?).

Need more info, is the vehicle stationary when u press the gas?, mileage,CVT trans? does it happens during driving? braking? etc.

Worn out brakes or drive axles are not likely to be affected by stepping on the gas pedal.

Find another shop and get another opinion.

If it's a screeching/grinding that goes away under braking, you just need new brake pads.

How many miles on the vehicle?

Did the tech who wanted to swap axles say that the CV boots were torn?

Worn out CV-joints typically cause a clicking sound around corners, and this happens on cars over 100K miles, typcially.

I have actually had a few customers with a similare concern and it turned out to be, of all things, a shifted belt in the tire. Happens most often on the Gooddyear 18" Eagle's that come OEM. Makes this terrible "grinding" noise and seems to be worse under lite acceleration. We have had it mostly at lower speeds like in a parking lot. I don't know if that is the noise you are having but I know we chased our tails for several hours with a couple different cars before we figured it out. Swapped tires from another car and noise went away. Good luck.

Mr. Incredible could be correct

My wife had to make an emergency stop in her 98 Maxima. As she smoked the tires to stop, it broke the belts in oneof the tires and it make this "thump thump" as we wentdown the road (couldnt tell at low speeds-ie parking lot)

They put it on the rack and slowly rotated it. YOu could tellit was "out of round". They replaced it and the problem wentaway.

You might take your hand and see if any of the wheels are reallyhot. If so, there could be a wheel bearing ready to go out.
