A little about the car, the pre-cat fell apart and got suck in and it blew the converter and blew a hole in the exhaust manifold; got someone to weld the hole up and gutted the converter and stuff. I'm sure the pre-cat came inside the car and ruined the motor. So I was wondering what is better rebuilding the head or buying a used motor. What do I need to worry about when rebuilding the head.

Just curious about the fuel pump on the 2003 sentra that I read recently online saying that sometime the fuel pump cause the car to shut off in the middle of the road and cause it to misfired. Is it true?

It's not only the head you need to worry about, it's the piston rings and cylinder walls. Just do a compression test and that should give you a pretty good idea of what's wrong. If you're not burning oil and have good compression you might have dodged the bullet.

For your fuel pump, the only thing we saw with the pumps while I was at Nissan was that the internal regulator in the canister is kinda messed up, causing a long crank time. There's a fix kit for that available from Nissan. Now what can cause your car to cut off is a bad crank sensor. Nissan also has an updated crank sensor for the QR. It may also be a recall, I can't remember. You can see if you have the newer style crank sensor by pulling it out, if it's metal, it's the new style, if plastic, you should go ahead and replace it before it fails. The cam sensor should also be metal, they come in a kit together.

Hope this helps :)

Okay thanks. Not sure what I am going to do beside the head. But I do burn a lot of oil very badly. If I am correct I probably burn like 2 quarts going to the city and back which is like 30mins drive. Yeah I will get a compression test first.

Funny thing is with the crank sensor, my sister who had the car before had it replaces twice and it still messed up. When I got it I had to replace once it since it cut off on me in the middle of the road. Okay I didnt know there were a metal kind.

thanks

I'd ditch that engine then.

I was thinking of doing that but buying a used motor is like $900. So right now I am looking up on the motor and research to decided what to do with it
