thanks man..no hard feelingsHoffman5982 wrote:have patience. seriously
im not taking the transmission out tho..OutToWinPAHC wrote:Cases of beer, friends, tools, and friends tools. Large drain pans help
Take your time. Unplumb it all, unwire it all, start unbolting the exhaust and anything that's in the way (radiator, etc). Then get engine jack in place, removed trans bolts and prep trans for removal (forget if its a push or pull type clutch), may need to pull clutch fork. Unbolt motor mounts, pull from trans and lift out. Take your time, be careful
its not that im terrified its the fact that i will have no place to put the transmission once i do pull it therefor i want to leave it on.. its hard to explain..zerepdivad wrote:Why are you so terrified of taking out the transmission with it?
put it on the ground, then put the motor where ever you want it. then put the trans in the trunk/hatch.leveledlife wrote:

ok it may be easier that way but is it completely impossibe to put it in with the transmission in??Flicktitty wrote:put it on the ground, then put the motor where ever you want it. then put the trans in the trunk/hatch.
ok well i guess ill let you all know how it goes..zerepdivad wrote:i've pulled those motors with trans with no problems. Pulled the trans but no motor a few times and that is annoying. Putting it back in is even more annoying. I can't imagine it being any easier putting the motor in with the trans still bolted up to the car. But go for it and let us know how that goes......
I pulled mine with the transmission still in the car, wish i hadn't but i did. If your gonna do it make sure you get ALL the bell housing bolts out, watch all of your wiring/fuel lines/brake lines. If it's an auto transmission, make sure to get the bell housing bolt behind the dispstick, and get the cooler lines off and out of the way.zerepdivad wrote:i've pulled those motors with trans with no problems. i have every line that is connected to the motor off.. what was your main problem getting the motor back in??baron_harkkonen wrote:

well like i said i got everything off the motor disonnected.. i just have to pull it now... the bolt on the top of the bell housing was a pita but i got it.. so when i put in i can just make sure the key way lines up and i should be ok right??OutToWinPAHC wrote:You don't have to pull the trans, but it much easier. If its a manual its only 3 or wire connectors, the mount and jimmy it out. I pulled my old KA and trans with a forklift in one piece. Took about 3 hours to do.
Its harder to serated under the car, and getting those bellhousing bolts out are a PITA.
Oh snap! Idk? I'm still buildin the motor, funds kinda tight right now. I'm gonna do a 5spd swap and put them both back in together. Um, other than gettin your dowel pins lined up and get your bolts started, don't tighten them untill you get them all started, I see no other MAJOR problem puttin it back in. Do you have an engine lift or what?leveledlife wrote:

i have a cherry picker, and i already have the 5 speed when the motor comes out i can do the clutch then.. im just worried about the whole puttin it in..baron_harkkonen wrote:

why ouldnt you get it to fo in were you lining up your key ways? ive done many of v8 swap but this isnt a v8.. i just dont understand why its so hard..Xj220gt wrote:I struggled for about 2 days when I tried installing the motor with the transmission already in place. I was working by myself of course. but even when I had a friend helping me, it was such a PITA and I actually scrapped a bunch of stuff (my new stage2 spec pressure plate) and after a while, i started getting scared of bending something or messing something up, so I said f*** it.....
dropped the transmission, took a whole 10 mins if that. pull the bish out and man handled that thing onto the engine. install was beyond easy after that......
only problem with the transmission being taken out though, was that there was a lot of fluid going everywhere...
so you eventuallyy got it in with the transmission in?Xj220gt wrote:This was my first engine swap (ka to ka) so I might just not have the right experience, but I can tell you for sure that it is easier with transmission out.
the problem was that I couldnt get the driveshaft in the engine, I would sometimes, but the angles were usually wrong and the driveshaft would not go in all the way. sometimes it would slip out.... I got pissed and jumped in the engine bay with the engine as my friend lowered the engine in. I was trying to manhandle it and it fell on the motor mounts luckily. part of it on me.. no major damage to me, just bruises on my legs. the engine isnt that heavy, thank god.
either way, stupid move and all, it is much easier and safer to just install the transmission and engine together.
im not taking the transmission out period so i need advice on with it in the car..E7-S14 wrote:my .02 cent
speaking form experience.pull it with the transmission on.its easieryou'll save your self many cuss words, and time.trust me.
...its not a honda.
what angle did it go in at??Xj220gt wrote:No. I did not get it in with the transmission bolted in.
I had to drop the transmission(unbolt it) grab the transmission and mate it with the engine, then I installed the engine and the transmission together.
thats not my point im not pulling the transmission period i need help with installing JUST motor..Lonismos14 wrote:SO THERE GOES YOUR ANSWER FOR THE TENTH TIME TODAY PULL BOTH AND THROW THE transmission IN THE TRUNK
Xj220gt wrote:its just hard because you are trying to align the motor to the transmission and alight the motor mounts at the same time. (you could probably get away with taking them off and installing after the transmission is in)
when you lower the engine in, it will not be easy because you have to align it and push it. its kinda hard to push it because its being held by the engine jack (puller/whatever) and pushing it will mainly just tilt the engine.
