I have a 98 240sx LE. It has all the toys. Sadly, its automatic and im looking into a manual swap. I know that i have to change out the computer for this swap and im curious as to whether some of my toys will function afterwards. I need to know if the A/C and the Cruise Control will function after i swap the computer out for a manual transmission one. I know that the Cruise Control specifically works off the computer, so this is a concern of mine. I dont use it often, but when i travel, i really enjoy having it. Does anyone know?? Any info helps.

I've heard that you don't have to switch out the ECU, in matter of fact it will let you rev a bit higher i think. But you will also have some cold start issues, but other then that if you do plan on swithching it out you shouldn't have any problems with your mods and AC and such. I myself am planning to do this conversion while i drop my motor in.

No, you do not have to change your ECU. You cross two wires to make the car think that it is in neutral at all times so it will start, and that is it. I have never heard anything about the cold start problems Rusted_PS13 mentioned...I swapped to a manual in January and all winter I had no problems at all.

And about revving higher - you don't have to wire the gear sensors back up, so you won't have any rev limiters if that is what you are talking about.

I have done a few manual swap. on a OBDII S14 you may get a check engine code for a sensor but everything will work fine. You still can retain you stock ecu. There are no cold start problems, if anything it will idle up a little higher briefly, if you tap the gas.

Yes, as long as you wire the reverse lights back up.

Do you just leave the AT control module in the driver's side footwell or take it out? And the switch you're referring to when you jumper it is the "inhibitor switch" by the fuse box in the engine compartment, correct?

Depends on your state etc. NJ here they plug in your car and scan for codes using auto ecu will already have check engine light on. Thus fail for that code being present due to retaining auto ecu. You need a 97/98 ecu only to have no codes present.

So what you're saying is that once you jumper all the switches, you can remove the A/T controller without any negative effects?

I got done doing my 97 not too long ago.

Yes keep the stock ECUYes you will get a check engine lightYes you need to jumper one connector togetherNo you don't need the A/T controller box anymore No you will not have cold start issues Yes the car feels much faster as you've freed up some ponies as well as gained a much better gear ratio

Do NOT get a manual driveshaft from a 95. I will not work. The clutch pedal will not work unless you shim it away from the firewall. the brake pedal will not work so just cut the stocker.

my advice is to just get all the parts from a 96+ so you don't have to d!ck with it.

^^yea... what he said^^

You may also find these directions very usefull. They should answer most, if not all of your questions. http://www.ka24development.com....htmlhttp://www.ka24development.com....html

If your doing the swap on your own, a factory fsm can come in very handy, especially when taking out the auto and putting in the manual. You can find them for free online, I think there is a link up in the general forum. Best of luck.
