I got a 98 kouki, and a few days ago the check engine light turned on, so me and my friend ran the scanner and it came back as a bad catalytic converter. To be more specific it was the first one after the exhuast manifold that was bad and the price for a new one is 850.00! i just smogged the car so i was thinking on running straight 2.5 inch piping until i smog it again maybe i can afford it then, but my engine is bone stock besides an aftermarket air filter. so does anyone recommend doing this because i dont want to risk messing up the other cats and/or my o2 sensors by keeping that cat on and 850 is way too much compared to the 150 for the straight pipe. Will it be way too loud and annoying or does anyone suggest going with a different route or maybe diameter size. plz help

running straight pipe with no cats wont hurt your car, you'll get a few more hp out of it. it will be pretty loud if you take out all of your cats and then you'll run in to problems with cops, especialy since you live in cali, i would gut the bad cat. this way you still have it to show the cops. i dont know if it would mess up your other cats or 02 sensors. also when you get an exhaust it usually comes with a baffel. there are some exhaust that are sound level legal too.
