So I just bought a used 2003 G35 Coupe with 42K on it. It drives great but I knew I needed brake work shortly after I bought it. I had researched and heard the stories about 2003 brake rotors/pads problems so I kinda expected a need to overhaul them.Anyway, I took it to a fairly reliable shop. I just need someone to let me know if they think I paid a decent price

Brake Job (front discs) $169

The rotors needed replacing ($80 per rotor X2)Pads replaced with OEM AAIMCO Pads (they got them at Infiniti dealer)

Brake Job (rear discs) $169They resurfaced the rotors, put on OEM Pads

Question:#1 Is $500 + tax a fair price for all of this crap? I know how much parts cost, but I kind of have to accept that I cant do it myself

#2 I has heard all of your boards say to buy HawkHPS pads, but the dealer told me that the downside to them was that they take too long to heat up for a city driver like me to benefit from. He also said the sqeak more and I really hate that. Anyway, he assured me that even though 2003 pads may have been subpar...that the OEM pads inifiniti is using now has probably worked out their original problems. And that the rule of thumb is to use OEM whenever possible

#3 What I'm really trying to do is find a mechanic "home" for my G35. This brake job was really the 1st chance these guys had to show me they are worthy...so I wanted to get your thoughts on their recommendations for brake parts + to see if you guys thought the price was fair considering they are a reputabe Goodyear Mechanis shop.

I appreciate the feedback guys...

I'll get some pics by Sat....

Price on entire brake job = $500+tax

resurface 2 rotors + replace 2 rotors + replace all pads(all parts OEM)

Thanks for the response. I LOVE that car. I cant believe I drove a 98 camry for 4 years. I still have the old camry....I love it's reliability. But it's tough to drive that thing after crusing in the beast/G35

You could replace all the rotors and the pads yourself for about $350, upgrade to drilled and slotted and ceramic pads.

OEM you could replace all the rotors and pads for about $250.

Still $500 for a brake job seems right for paid work. Its what my Infiniti dealership was going to charge me to do my brakes on the 07 sedan

Hey ALL: What is the screw size and length to use to remove the rear rotors of 2003 G35 Sedans? I'm not referring to the 19 mm that attaches the torque member to the back of the rotors. I read one article that said 12 mm, but it did not state the screw length. The article said by screwing this 12 mm into the extra hole on the rotor, you can loosen the rear rotor in an easier manner vs using a hammer to loosen the rotor. I could not reply to the original article, bc the author does not accept any more replies (i.e. locked post).
