Aite guys, I recently relocated my battery to the trunk, and everything is going fine except I put a fuse in the middle of the main power line leading to the front of the car, and the problem is that this fuse will blow after 3 or 4 cranking attempts. I've been using an 80 watt fuse. Any ideas? Should I take the fuse out of the main line? Should I get a higher rating fuse? Any ideas? :help Thanks Chris

Do you mean 80 Amperes? I think it's too small. The starter motor could pull in more than 100 Amps of current. I'm planning to do battery relocation too with my SR swap. I'll be using 150A DC circuit breaker in conjunction with 250 A fuse (all about $30). The fuse is just for re-assurance if the CB takes a dump and keeps shorting out in the event of a short-circuit.

Ok, so I'll go get like a 200 A fuse and see if that does the trick. How would I wire a CB into the wiring? Cause I've got the fuse wired into the line, but I'd love to see how I could put a circuit breaker in. Thanks Chris

You can usually find a circuit breaker over in the car audio department at most electronic stores. I know Monster cable makes them. They just mount in like a normal fuse holder, its just a little larger thats all. And these circuit breakers are specifically designed to work in cars, but they can cost like 50 bucks a piece.

Hi Chris,

The 150 Amps DC circuit breaker I mentioned can be found at waytekwire.com. I think they are about $27 a piece. I can't tell you how good it is cause I'm still waiting for my SR engine to come in before doing the battery relocation. It's supposed to come in about 2 weeks from HT. However, I think 150 Amps should be enough unless you add lots of stereo stuff. I will be putting the circuit breaker and 250 A fuse in series inside the battery box I bought from Summit. I will also buy Optima red battery ($100 from Costco). That's should be enough for short circuit protection.

You don't need fuses, I guess they are just for safety sake. if you fuse all your individual electronics you should be fine. I guess the benefit of having a fuse on the battery line is that if the positive cable get pinched, frayed, or comes in contact with a ground that fuse will blow instead of your other fuses. The safest thing to do would be to find out the ampere rating on the alternator and get a fuse that matches that.

I had my battery in my trunk when I had my KA. the car didn't really run the same and it puts more stress on the alternator. IMO it's better to just get a smaller battery. Unless you want to Auto-X and it's required for your class. Some classes require a trunk battery with a kill switch.

I have a 150amp fuse I believe its ment for like 100 foot boat, and large boat supplier should beable to hook you up. The reason I put on a fuse is that if the positive contacts any ground since its a 2 gauge wire my car = up in flames thats alot of shortage, not just smaller fuses...
