Need advice on 240zx

hello all first time on this board

today I went to look at a 92 240Zx HB it has 250km the body is in "ok" shape it although it may need a bit of work but I want to build this as a project car and eventually drop a an Sr20 swap

the dealer wants $1600 for it is that a good price for it?there is no oil leak nor does it burn oil but I notic ed a few drops of coolant underneath the car :rolleyes

1600 is not a bad price at all. I'll say get it, I got a 92 also. You might wanna check the radiator, so far the only thing that I had to change since I had my car was the radiator. Other than that all the other stuff I had done to my car is cause I want it to not cause I had to.

it looks like it sits a little low for stock suspension...it should have massive amounts of wheelgap.

yeah the car looks lower than other stock ones that I've seen also the car comes with a HKS mushroom air filter and brand new NGK spark plug wires, duno how much HP that would add or why the owner used them...:rolleyes

That is a good price, just do as these other guys have said and make sure it runs well.

Also when you first start the car make sure there's no rattling of the timing chain, could mean a $600 repair in the future. My old '93 also had an oil leak, about 1qt per 3000 miles, turns out it was the oil pan gasket, that's another $150-$200 if you don't have the knowledge to do it yourself. If you're getting the SR it shouldn't be a problem though if the motor is good enough to last till then you got a very goo deal! My '90 was $1700 with 129K

The last jack @#% owner probally cut the springs. Check that out too. If they did, it'll ride and handle like crap. But that's okay. It's just gives you a starting place for mods.

do you mean 250,000 kilometers or 250,000(250k) miles? 250,000 km is about 155,350 mi.

if this is a pj car then why are you so worried about all the little things that will most would be replaced in the future thats unless your using this as a pj/daily driving car

ohhhhh..that is the perfect rebuild project right there. you can sr it, or buy a ka for cheap and rebuild it....good buy man, any 240 is a reliable car.

update: a friend of mines that works at a shop has 2 240Sx's one a 1990 and the other 1992-1993 model they both need engine swaps but the best part is he's selling them for 200 US each!
