Need advice on 2008 Sentra 2.0S and SE-R

A great resource for Nissan Sentra, Infiniti G20, 200sx, Pulsar, NX1600, NX2000, Tsuru, Primera and Sunny owners.

Hi, I am looking at a 2008 Sentra with the CVT for my wife. We are torn between getting the 2.0S or just getting the SE-R. I was wondering if any one is having any kind of problems with these or the 2007 ones? Does the 2.5 still have the butterfly screw problem and the precat I need to gut? Also, what kind of fuel mileage are you guys getting with the 2.0 and the 2.5? We have a 2002 Maxima now and are wanting something that gets better mileage. How noticible is the power difference between the two as well. Sorry for the long post.

Thanks,Jeremy

Car: 2007 Sentra SE-R

I get about 9.8 liters/100km in the SE R in the summer with like 80 to 90% city driving. It must have gone up in the winter since the car computer reads higher then summer but I can't give you a solid number cause I haven't actually done the math myself (the car's read out is worse then it's really).

Engine's been find for almost 4000km now. People have had steering noise at parking lot speed. That was fixed quickly (relatively) by my dealer but others have been waiting a long time.

Power difference is apparent. I get the 2.0 Sentra as the loaner when they were fixing things and it's not as fun to drive for sure. The suspension is softer though the SE R will feel kind of bumpy. The SE R engine is also smoother I think then the 2.0 and with the intake Nissan has it's less noisy when you push it then the 2.0. It's hard to use the paddle shifters because it's hard to hear the rev noise at the 3k rpm mark.

The power difference is VERY apparent. I have been driving my car for about 4 months now, and I had to drive one of A & M Chicago's (independent market research company specializing in consumer reports for autos) cars, a Spec V, and the immediate power off throttle is enough to convince me I wish I had a Spec.
