I have a 96 nissan 4wd pickup. I was driving home from work tuesday and it went dead(engine). It just free spins like it has no compression. It does, also spark, and correct gap .040. I have checked the fuel pressure it is 45 psi before the rail. When I try to start it i smell fuel. The only way I can get it to detonate is by pulling the fuel pump fuse and spraying starting fluid in the intake. Any help would be appreciated.

3 things make a engine run. Fuel, electical, and mechanical.Do you have spark? injector pulse? do you have GOOD compression? Is your fuel pressure within factory specs?

Fuel pressure according to the book is supposed to be 33psi with vacuum and 43 psi without vacuum, Iinstalled an inline gauge and when I turn the key it goes to 45psi then as the motor spins its is around 41psi.I have spark on all 4 cylinders and the plug gap is .040, which is what the book says its supposed to be.Didn't check the compression with a gauge, but it will suck your finger in, then blow it off the hole with a serious air blast. (sounds really good compression)I am not sure about the injector pulse yet.

I have noticed something else, I have an injector pulse on 1&4, but solid 11V on 2&3. I take the injector wires off 2&3, it tries to run. So, 2&3 are flooding it out?? what would make injectors 2&3 have a solid voltage? 1&4 have a pulse.

Not sure but i would guess the engine control unit controls fuel injection. Find a wiring schematic may have a relay or fuse or something that controls the injectors between the ecu and injector. otherwise it may be the ECU, if so try a junkyard for cheaper than new replacement. Or find a buddy if you have one with same model ecu to swap and test.

There is some useful information in here... http://www.nicoclub.com/FSM/ha...c.pdf

Sounds electrical to me but not sure.
