Hey guys,

I potentially looking at buying my third Z today. The car I'm looking at is a 91 TT 5 speed with 96000 miles that's been sitting for a REALLY REALLY long time (5 yrs at least). I went yesterday to look at it and it was pretty rough. The outside was not too bad but will need some minor body work eventually. The motor looks like crap, just really dirty and the metals were oxidized. Of course the battery was dead so he had to jump it. When it started there was the knocking I was sure I would hear. Luckily there was no smoking but after a while it started to sound as if it would stall out. The idle was around 500 rpms and it stayed that way. The oil pressure was almost in the middle where it was supposed to be from what i know. He moved it from where it was parked for x amount of years and when it came to a stop the motor stalled out. I checked the spot it was sitting in and there was no leaks which i was surprised about. The only thing I forgot to do was go underneath and look at the bottom. The price is great for the condition the car is in. He's owned it since 96 and said he got it from the original owner. Said he did the timing belt tune up at around 60K.

My questions are:
1. What questions would you ask him? ( I want to know if I asked the rights ones and if i missed any)
2. What should turn me away from purchasing this car?
3. If i do get it I plan on getting ALL the fluids changed. Would it be wise to flush the transmission and diff as well?
4. I know the rough idle could be due to bad gas, plugs, and even injectors but could there something else?

Any response will be helpful guys. Im just worried about getting a lemon and but don't want to let a good deal get away from me.

I was hoping someone would give some advice but i've told the owner I will buy it. Any recommendations as to what will be good to clean the engine bay safely?

Doesn't sound like there is anything catastrophically wrong with it. The only thing that bothers me is the knocking you described but since you've already bought it, GL with the resto. If I had the room to store cars I would definitely have bought this for the right price. 96k mile all original Z that seemingly runs well and just needs a good cleaning sounds like a hell of a deal (unless you paid $10k)

Should have used better words lifter tick not knocking (which after we drove it around his block which was a series of going up hill then down ran pretty ok. Def kept it under 3k and thanks I'm looking forward to the resto as well.
