I potentially looking at buying my third Z today. The car I'm looking at is a 91 TT 5 speed with 96000 miles that's been sitting for a REALLY REALLY long time (5 yrs at least). I went yesterday to look at it and it was pretty rough. The outside was not too bad but will need some minor body work eventually. The motor looks like crap, just really dirty and the metals were oxidized. Of course the battery was dead so he had to jump it. When it started there was the knocking I was sure I would hear. Luckily there was no smoking but after a while it started to sound as if it would stall out. The idle was around 500 rpms and it stayed that way. The oil pressure was almost in the middle where it was supposed to be from what i know. He moved it from where it was parked for x amount of years and when it came to a stop the motor stalled out. I checked the spot it was sitting in and there was no leaks which i was surprised about. The only thing I forgot to do was go underneath and look at the bottom. The price is great for the condition the car is in. He's owned it since 96 and said he got it from the original owner. Said he did the timing belt tune up at around 60K.
My questions are:
1. What questions would you ask him? ( I want to know if I asked the rights ones and if i missed any)
2. What should turn me away from purchasing this car?
3. If i do get it I plan on getting ALL the fluids changed. Would it be wise to flush the transmission and diff as well?
4. I know the rough idle could be due to bad gas, plugs, and even injectors but could there something else?
Any response will be helpful guys. Im just worried about getting a lemon and but don't want to let a good deal get away from me.
