Hi, new to the forums and basically new to the automotive world. Right now I'm currently diriving a 91 crx... but have decided to purchase a s14. I should be getting that in two weeks when I get my next paycheck ^_^. Well, like I said, I just started to get into the beauty and appreciation of cars, especially when they are drifting. And well, I wanted to know some opinions on how I can learn about cars... I know pretty much didly-squat about them.. -.- So any suggestions would be most appreciated! Thanks !

On a side note.. About how much do 95 240's go for in your area?

Welcome to NICO

First off, the big red "search" button is your friend. It is located at the top right hand corner of this fine site. Be sure to use it before you decide to post a new thread. Because quite possibly, the topic in question may have been covered before.

Second, read this: http://www.nissaninfiniticlub....=1259

Thirdly, the admins and mods here carry a very big stick.

In my area, Los Angeles, CA. 1995 240SX's go on average of $5,000 to $7,000 depending on condition. As for your area, I suggest you do some research on Kelly's Blue Book and Autotrader.

Senji, welcome to NICO! There's quite a few ways to learn about cars. The best way is to get a job at an tire/auto shop of some sort. You'll learn more in a week then you will in a lifetime of internet browsing. A dealer lot kid is another good job which will introduce you to many cars...hang around some techs, find out what cars are crap and which cars are decent..and so on.

Saw a '95 last week for sale $5700 painted an ugly shade of blue.

Engineering beauty starts here.

wow nice, thanks for the welcome guys. No I live in Annandale VA. Hmm really wish I had the time to get a part time job or something that you guys suggested, but I already work full time and the job is such a stressful job... hehe. but hey, its good money. Yeah, I think I got lucky, Im getting a 95 240 for 4200, only thing wrong with it, is it has some little rust spots, about the size of the tip of my finger nail, has about 100k miles on it, which shouldnt be too bad since I wanna eventually do a SR20 swap on it. and the horrible, horrible tint job that is peeling. hehe. its also coming with a clarion reciever. even though ill just sell it and get a alpine :oface

you can go to dealerships but since you don't seem to have any schooling on the automotive industry you can start at the bottem and try to get a position of "lot attendant/car detailer" you will be the bottem of the barrel washing and waxing cars making them look nice for customers but jsut being around a shop all day you will deffenetly learn something. there are also clean up positions in the actuall shop, i don't know the technical name jsut put clean up. also a car jockey (bringing cars around for customers) as far as dealerships go thats all i can think of. Also the tire shop idea would be good. Depending on where you go you might beable to get a position at like a jiffy lube or something liek that where you could do oil changes and tire rotatio or whatever the hell they do, but they usualy look for people who have automotive service technition certificates, but yeah good luck with all that.

Welcome Senji! Sounds like you have the right idea about finding out about the car you're buying! I suggest buying the "Factory Service Manual" or "FSM" for your car. I bought one for my 1996 240sx right after I purchased the car and I have used it repeatedly. It will tell you how to do almost all maintainence on your car. You can find them on ebay for ~$80 and it's well worth it. Don't skimp and get the ones that come on CD; you want the big, fat black book that's really expensive and really worth it. Best of luck!

if you want to learn something about cars i don't suggest going to a dealership and start off with the position "car jockey or detailer", all you going to be doing is driving or cleaning ALL DAY LONG. Go to a private shop or as drift-sx said towards the end of his statement-going to jiffy lube and ask for the position "mechanic helper" or osmething like that would be a good idea oR you can go to school and learn.

I believe you can get a FSM direct from Nissan's supplier or a dealership for < $80 shipped. Bonus: Dealership won't rip you off like some random guy on Ebay. ;)

They are hard to find at dealerships, and usually the same price or more expensive than ebay. I bought mine from someone off Zilvia for $80 shipped. It's hard to find it for any less than that, but if you can, more power to you!

Senji - Welcome

Please readup about the common engine swaps for our cars.. searching NICO may be difficult as there are literaly 100's of threads about "SR" and "engine swap" So i'd suggest checking out the FAQ in each of the engine forums. You can feel free to message me on AIM and ask questions, but I will expect you to have made SOME effort to learn for yourself. You put the time & effort into learning and any of us will be glad to help you.
