Post

well ive been researching and im thinking of joinging the rb group..

im looking to do a rb20det.

my main issue is the crank snout..

the main thinkg id like to know from people who actually race/drift there car..

do you think i should worry about it or not..i mean i havent read a thread about it really for the rb.i notice alot fo people dont do anyhting about it.

i mean im just wondering cuz if it isnt really necessary for under 300whp then that would shave 400+$ off the build.

im looking to dowater pumpoil pumptiming belt tensionersoil pan and vale cover gasketsfront rear main sealsvacuum hosesoarj plus oil change etc.

and been tossing weither to get the jun collar and have it installed but not sure if its really necessary..

im going to install some oil restrrictors to prevent pooling of oil in the head and maybe some external drains.. i might as well do the collar.. but in that case i might as well rebuild the engine.. but im poor so im trying to pick only what necessary..

so im looking for real world experience with this problem

thanks

Welcome to the RB subforum!

I don't have any advice on the crank collar, the common consensus says to just do it especially if you're doing any internal work. Maybe someone else will chime in on that.

Might want to add a few things to that list, here's some other stuff you should think about... First off do a thermostat while you're doing the water pump. Don't forget you'll need all new rubber hoses and belts, as most of the stockers are deteriorated at this point. Also your #6 exhaust manifold studs will probably be snapped and you'll most likely also need an exhaust gasket (just buy the whole gasket set and save your self tons of time and money). You'll need a "custom" downpipe of sorts, check out the AM performance one if you're planning to run the stock turbo. Should do a clutch and at least resurface the stock flywheel before you drop it in. One last thing, your RB will probably come with a dented oil pan, if it's not too bad you can bang it out flat again.. Otherwise any RB20 or RB25 pan will work, new ones are around $150ish. Theres lots more little stuff like this, as you'll find out...

BTW the "might as well" mentality will end up costing you a good $5k to $10k on top of your motor set. Don't say we didn't warn you haha .

GL hope to see you around. Check out the skylines australia and skylines down under boards if you haven't already, lots of info over there also.

if you're gonna have it torn down then collar the crank...if you use a long snout pump on a short drive crank it'll break somewhat quickly.
