ok, so my friend's brother has a 1990 240sx with a blown ka24e but a good 5spd transmission. the body is in perfect shape, not even a dent although the paint is really faded. the interior is real good and the sun roof doesnt leak and the dash isnt cracked (unlike my daily driver). will have pics tuesday

im getting around seven or eight hundred dollars for graduation and he said he would take 700.

here's the part where i need a few suggestions - rb25det or sr20detmy first thought was to jus throw a sr20 in it cause it would be fairly cheap and kinda easy. BUT my brother has a 200sx with a sr20det and i would really like to smoke him! lol plus everybody has a sr swap so now ive been thinkin bout puttin in a rb25det cause i figured "if im gonna do a swap i mite as well go ahead and get what i really want."

So as of rite now my plan is to get the car with my grad. money and take out a loan for about 4 grand and get a rb25 and a few other things. I figured i mite as well so that way i can get some credit built up at the bank.

What do u guys think, does that sound like a good idea? Keep in mind that this is just a weekend warrior so im not too worried about gas milage and what not

1. you'll need more than 4 grand to do a complete rb25 swap

2. the dumbest and I mean dumbest thing you can ever do is take out a loan to mod a car, if you can't pay for it out of pocket you can't afford it. Maybe I'm getting old but please don't take out a loan worth 3-4 times the amount of the car itself no wonder this country is in so much debt

depends on what you plan on doing with the car, if you dont plan on modding more than just a drop in motor, sr will be plenty, even with upgrades. i agree with the loan part, i have a loan on my project car, but its so cheap per month i couldnt pass it up, but i cant see taking a loan out on parts, thats kinda stupid lol. def start saving up some coin and if you are slightly serious on some real power, start at the wheels.

If you got a good job and can pay the payments, go for it. Good credit is hard to acquire now days. And most importantly you only live once!

What kind of job are we talking about? I was once working two $10 an hour jobs for about 75 hours a week and thought I could finance a new car easily. Then I went off to college, and I am STOKED I didn't do it. My point is this job may not last as long as you think it will, and as soon as you can't make payments your credit is gonna get f***ed. And it is way more than 4 grand for a rb25 swap. I did a budget rb20 swap for 5 grand.

its a $12 an hour job and my brother has work there for two yrs and is makin bout $14 now and my dad has been a head manager there for bout 5yrs so i think im ok on the job part. now im not exactly sure on the price, i was jus thinkin it would be around 4 grand but ppl keep sayin its gonna be more than that so i guess i was wrong on that part. lol but however much it is, is how much i'll take out

I must agree with the dude up there, loan is a big mistake, first you sound young and without much credit history. That means you be needing to open a line of credit or pull a cash advance on a credit card. Either way with the interest, by the time you done paying off this $4K loan, you would off paid close to $10K. YES even if it is between 10-15% interest which you wont get, plug in the equations = close to $9K. just dont do it, loans with no collateral that low of a figure run close to 18 to 22% . I'm not trying to kill your dream but it is the dumbest thing you can ever do. AND a proper RB25 swap will run WAY more than $4K... you are planning on handeling and stopping this beast right?

Good idea its fun living with your parents until you're 30 too

$12/hr I wouldn't even think about taking a loan out, just piece it together slowly and build it as you get the funds
