Need advice for my 1999 Nissan Sentra

A great resource for Nissan Sentra, Infiniti G20, 200sx, Pulsar, NX1600, NX2000, Tsuru, Primera and Sunny owners.

Hey guys. First off, I'd like to mention that I am new here so I apologize if this is the incorrect area to post this. But okay down to business. So I just now got my first care, I'm 17 so pretty excited. I'm looking to drop some money on it. Currently first on my list is definitely a paint job. The paint on the hood, roof, and trunk is badly sun damaged and peeling. The car is a 1999 Nissan Sentra (automatic  )

So my questions are:

How much would a standard regular paint job cost around? (I know this depends a lot on the company doing it, I just want an estimate.)

What are some not-so-expensive ways I could improve the cars acceleration?

And what are some things I could buy/do to the engine to improve performance?

Thanks.

Welcome aboard!

A decent paint job should cost @ least 2-3k if done properly. Obviously there are the "Maaco's" that will do it for 500-1k. But we all know the golden rule "you buy cheap, you buy twice".

As far as modifications for the 1.6, you can do intake header & exhaust, but in all honesty you aren't really going to see that much improvement for the amount of cash spent, IMHO. Although it will be a good learning tool to give you some education on working on or fixing up cars. Used items are your best bet if you go that route. The best modification you could start with is a tune-up. Spark plugs, wires, fuel filter, oil change, etc...

The man speaks the truth.

A $1000-$1500 paint job will most likely get you into something shiny, but have some defects here and there (drip on the mirrors, wavyness, etc)... basically not perfect. If that's all you really want, then go for it. If you are looking for perfection, then yeah, plan on spending upwards of 3k.

You can ask your paint shop if they offer a discount if you do some of the prep work (sand the car down, tape it up, etc) using your own materials.
