Hello everyone, some help and advice please. Just recently sold my '96 maxima that was running great with 211K miles, but rusting out around me, and miss having a manual car to drive...

There is a 2004 G35 sedan 6MT available near me, 177K miles, with low oil pressure light on, for $2000 negotiable. Guy says son got a new car, they didn't want to put money into it, only driven 20 miles since light came on, dipstick shows full. I've only seen pictures, car is a little over an hour from me.

Any guesses as to the most likely cause? I have done some research, and the sensor or oil pump pop up as possibilities. Looks like the oil pump is a fairly "big" job? $1000 at a shop? Sensor I'm sure I could handle.

Is this worth looking at if the car is in otherwise good shape? Anything I should "look for" when I see it? Any words of wisdom or advice are welcome.

Thanks!

If it sounds too good to be true it usually is

My advice is if you are seriously purchasing a 12 year old vehicle that is close to end of life, spend the money to have the vehicle inspected at a local Infiniti dealer and have them run the VIN number.

Unless you have the money for upcoming repairs, ability and tools to do repair work yourself you are looking at a possible disaster.

Why would anyone want to spend possibly thousands of dollars on a vehicle that is almost worthless due to age?

BTW I traded in my 06 G35 6sp manual at 171796 miles because I didn't want to put money on repairs either.
My brand new 2012 came with all new parts and a warranty

Very Happy with my choice

My $.02

Good luck

Could be an oil pickup or sensor problem. Do some additional searches for oil light issues with the G. As long as you are aware that you may be buying a dud which may need work then you should be OK. $2k is pretty cheap.
