ok so i have an 89 hb stock motor... i found a turbo kit for the SOHC and i thought it would be fun to be original and build the SOHC instead of doing a motor swap... for all intensive purposes lets pretend im a complete idiot and need advice on what i need and dont need..the kit is complete so im not worried about that but other things such as
fuel management system?
injectors?
intake manifold?
all the electronic fancy boost control s***?
ECU?
i mean what else should i buy?
my goal is to get 450hp out of the SOHC
the web site claims that the kit alone (header downpipe turbo intercooler piping waste gate BOV blah blah blah) can run 7 psi without changing anything.. but i know thats probably not the case and im curious to see the opinions on what i should do and what i need to do to run 15-20psi...which i feel like with other parts can get me to my goal...
let me know im here to learn i wanna hear it all

holy s*** that thread is outrageous!!! but not really the help i was looking for lol...i am trying to figure out what needs to be bought...and why...plus he had so much trouble with that car its nuts...he changed so much from his original plans i think 400-450 is a reasonable goal for the sohc and im trying to find the best way to get that

whats up. that is my build. I did have a lot of problems getting mine off the ground but, that was because when i started mine there wasnt any help. A lot of the things i did I was one of the first so I learned from trial and error. If you read my whole build then you will see all of them but also will see the solutions. But to answer your questions
I am gonna say you need a stand alone. AEM
Injectors I would look for some 72lbs/750cc
As for the intake mani, I think ours is fine but you will see a better response if you upgrade to the xcessive manufacturing plenum. before i had mine on it would fall on its face with a stab of the throttle.
You will also need gauges to monitor what is actually going on in the engine bay. Wide band, boost gauge, oil pressure etc.
Also something you didnt mention was the bottom end. at 450 your gonna want a beefed up bottom end. you might even want to tap into the head and do some solid lifters. You will also need a good headgasket

If you have anymore questions feel free to ask. as you probably seen that build has moved to a totally new level with twincharging.

aem stand alone? $$$$$$ lol im in the military too...ill have to deploy again to save up for one of those lol... and with the stand alone does that completely eliminate the use of the ecu? if not what kinda ecu should i look into... and as somewhat of a fix would a throttle body spacer do the trick in terms of throttle response... as of right now i really wanna get this turbo kit together and some of the things that i will need with it... when it comes time to pull the motor i can do bottom end work intake manifold head gasket and all that crap but for now i cant pull the motor so i want to see what can be done..

and yes i saw the twin charging :bowrofl: <bowing to you...but def not laughing!

yes the stand alone covers everything the ecu does. it gives you everything you could want and stuff you prolly wont care for. but your power goals this is what your gonna need. they make cheaper brands but then tuning comes into consideration. some people are only good with some ecus. A throttle body spacer will help a little. you might look into custom fabbing one. xcessive manufactering sells the plenum and its not to expensive. The standalones have dropped drastically in price, i paid nearly a 1000 more than they are selling for right now. plus you can monitor them from your iphone too. with your power goals your gonna be spending quite a bit of money.

yeah I think its 1700..check enjuku...I bought mine for almost 3000. Im telling you though, well worth the investment. there are others out there too. ask some of the local dyno shops what they like to work on. Its better if you pick their favorites cause then the tuning should go easier.
