Hi all,

I've done a search for my question and couldn't come up with anything. I'm pretty inexperienced when it comes to cars and their inner workings. I own an 2009 Altima Coupe 2.5, and love it. It's driven mostly for leisure, and it's only not coming up to it's 49,000 KM checkup. The last time I went in they said that this next one is a big one, and the work needed to be done will cost around $400. Forgive me, but I can't quite remember what exactly needs to be done. But I know it's a scheduled thing at 49,000 KM, and assume everyone comes across it and that you might know which one I'm talking about.

I've been hearing that the work that needs to be done is unnecessary, but I wanted to get advice from those who know more about cars than I do, and who also own an Altima Coupe. So, do I need this work done or is it safe to skip it and do the basics this visit?

Thanks all, much appreciated.

p.s. I'm a first time car owner, sorry for the newbie question, please don't rage on me!

:chuckle: Sorry about that.
Now to answer your question.
I hit 49,000 KM a month ago.
Only thing i did was rotate my tires.
Change my oil, and filter.
Replaced my front pads.
You should get your transmission fluid checked, and replace if needed.
Change oil. Rotate tires. change/replace in-cabin filter.
and Get your fluids checked.
Might be forgetting something.
Edit:
SHould help

Yeah its all the little ins and outs like in cabin filters, wiper blades, brake pads, all the consumables that SHOULD need replacement at 30K miles or 49K kilometers. That doesnt mean that everything NEEDS replacement. Do a visual inspection of what you can, and tell them to only do what you need. Dont pay them to do things like wiper blades, thats just silly talk.

If you're questioning the dealership trying to sell you service that is scheduled but not really needed, then they may be a questionable dealership. When I took mine in for 30k service they said they would inspect and get back with me. They were very honest and said only an oil/filter change and a cabin filter is all I needed. Everything else was fine. It is good to have a dealership that shoots straight with you, keeps you going back.

Unfortunately this is very rare. When I went for my 30K I specifically told my dealership NOT to do my wiper blades. They did them anyway, and still tried to make me pay for it.

Thanks guys. It's the actual Nissan dealership I bought it from. When I spoke on the phone with the service rep, she said it was the big 2 year or every 48,000 KM check up, if that gives you any more specifics. She mentioned some of the work that you guys have already stated. I asked if I HAD to do it all, she said I could certainly get them to see what is only necessary, but they would probably suggest I do it all. Other than trusting that they'll shoot straight with me, is there anything you guys suggest I ask them?

Thanks!

If you dont trust them to shoot straight in the first place, I dont suggest asking them anything.

Pull out your maintenance schedule, look up 49KM service, do what you can on your own, and then tell them to do the rest AS NEEDED.
