You've probably heard the story in my other topics, but I've been trying to work on all the mistakes of the previous owner of my 240. I've been working on putting a new steering column in and I noticed that there's a plug coming right out of the ignition tumbler that I can't find the mate for. There is however about 3-4 wires in the harness around the steering column that look like they've been cut. Does anyone know where I can get a wiring diagram to try and fix it? I've tried opening the .pdf files of the FSM, but my computer would have nothing of it, so I think I have to update my version of adobe, so something that's not a .pdf would be appreciated.

i have the 1991 wich might be similar. the wire colours are prolly different

5 wires come from the ignition switch if that is what you are talking about. not sure how they could be cut

This next electrical diagram shows the ignition switch, interlock relay , interlock switch. When you turnn key to start power goes to the starter solenoid.

I looked at the fsm and they dont have proper wiring diagrams. they do have a foldout somwhere but it isnt very good either. better to go to library and photo copy one in mitchels guide

Yeah, all 5 wires coming directly from the ignition switch were intact, he broke off the tumbler and was using a screwdriver to start it.

I'm not looking at my steering column right now because it's 30 below out and it's out in the garage, but I believe the plug I'm talking about is the other one visible in this pic, not the sort of diarrhea colored, thicker wire, thats the bundle of the five wires coming directly off of the ignition switch, the ones I'm talking about come out of the tumbler section I think.

I'll take a pic of what I'm talking about tomorrow when I click on the heater and get back to work on putting it in.

this is the entire lock assembly from auto rock parts. it looks identical to the 1991 from. not sure what the other plugs are for. they both have two wires. 1991 wiring diagrams are in my tutorial link in my signature under wiring diagrams they are two switches . one might be the seatbelt warning. i dont see it in the wirng diagrams. someone might know

Well, I don't know what the little plug does but I'm not too worried about it right now, I plugged the ignition from the new column in today just to start it up since it was so cold and I haven't started it since Wednesday. There was a little trouble at first in that the ground was loose, but after tightening it, the car fired right up, and almost all the electrical problems I had before(save the headlight motor, wipers, speedo and dash lights) were fixed just from having a proper ignition. Now I've read up why I think the speedo/dash lights don't work, and since it has an aftermarket stereo I think, that the connection in the TCU is burnt out, so once it gets warm enough to solder a jumper wire across the burnt out section and see if that fixes it.

By the way, do you think I should go through with replacing the whole steering column? the end that connects to the steering rack on the new one is alot less rusted, but couldn't I just drill out the screws in the new ignition assembly, buy some new tamper proof bolts and put it on the old column?
