The term for fixing a machine with a hammer. It has a real term and I can't remember it for the life of me.

If it was bare metal, there is "hardening". Old style smiths did this to metal objects with a hammer (e.g., to horse-shoes.)

Other possibilities:

Verb 1. dropforge - forge with a drop-forge; "drop-force the metal"

Verb 1. forge - create by hammering; "hammer the silver into a bowl"; "forge a pair of tongues"

i was talking to one of my friends, and he thinks it's called "bodging" or "to bodge". NASA invented the term I believe, but no online dictionaries have it.
