Hi all,

I am looking for a replacement transmission (Automatic) for my 98 Maxima. I haven't located one around my neck of the woods.

Hopefully someone has got one laying around in great condition that can be shipped to me, ready to install.

Thanks

Heeter

Try looking at www.lkqcorp.com. They usually have some low mileage units at a reasonable price with a 6 month warranty. They have locations all over the US and they ship.

You can also check out www.car-parts.com to search inventory of salvage yards. A quick search turned up a few LSD automatics (just assuming yours is and LSD) in your area and quite a few within your Province.

Dude, you are AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!

I just located a non-lsd with 87,000KMs (54,000miles) in Ontario for $460!. I am so happy, I bought the motor that goes with it for $490!. All this plus 115$ shipping. YAHOO!!!! plus 6 month warranty to boot.

I dont know if my existing transmission has LSD anyways.

I really dont think that lsd means a lot to me, looking for reliability, way over performance.

Thanks

Check the transmission code, it's on the data plate on the passenger side firewall. If it ends with a V it's a LSD trans and you will need a new driver's side axle.

Hi Max,

My trans code is: RE6FO4V FR36 <--There is a space after the "V"

Is it LSD transmission?

Thanks an absolute million for your help.

Yes, that is a LSD transmission.

You'll need to get a new driver side axle (non LSD, with or without ABS depending on your car), the passenger side will be the same. You'll also want to get a new transmission filter, quality fluid, and axle seals for the driver (non LSD) and passenger side on the transmission.

Hi Maxhopper

Was there a LSD/non-LSD transmission difference between ABS & non-ABS as well? The shop is sending out for free a driver's side axle with my transmission, but they asked me if my ride has ABS?

Thanks

The difference is not in the trans, but the axle.

Look under your hood and see if you see a large silver box with brake lines running into and out of it. On yours, I believe it's usually right under the brake master cylinder (or possibly on the passenger side of the engine bay). If you see this object, you have ABS, if you don't see it, you don't have ABS.

Thank you, Maxhopper

I do have ABS because I felt it kicking in over the winter.

Talked to the supplier because of your recommendations. He is shipping non LSD/ABS axles with my transmission for free.

Cannot thank you enough,

Heeter

Sorry, Maxhopper

One more question.

What would you recommend for quality transmission fluid?

There is soo many to choose from the auto parts store. Talked to 2 different counter guys, they say different brands and vicosity.

My Maxima is a long distance highway driver mostly. I do absolutely no racing at all with it.

Thanks

You could always use the Nissan Matic D fluid, but any name brand Dextron III equivalent should be fine (just don't get some no name generic fluid).
