I was just browsing through some old threads about squeaky belts and I came across a DIY thread on how to adjust the belts and noticed something.

The first step listed was to "take the plastic cover (a.k.a. "splash guard") off on the bottom of the car".

Well, from what I can remember (and I am remembering correctly cause I just went outside and checked), my MY2001 QX4 2wd does not have a plastic cover that covers the pulleys and the fan and the front of the engine from below. Basically, when I open the hood and look where the belts and pulleys and the clutch fan are, I can see the ground.

Does that mean I lost mine somewhere? or does the MY2001 QX4's don't come with splash guards?

Ya theres a big plastic protector that covers most of the front undercarriage

Its a PITA to remove/install, yours probably just got thrown away by a previous owner

ya mine is cracked too, the guys who change my oil mentioned to me that looks like someone (prob dealer) cut a section out to make it easier to do the oil change! How much does one of those cost to replace?

Thank you.

I AM the previous owner. We bought the car new back in 2001...

The car was never in an accident.. I wonder where it went. lol

have you been doing your own oil changes since you purchased your car? if not, one of the people who changed your oil probably forgot to put it back on. It keeps splashes away from your engine bay and protects against flying rocks or debris while high speed. I keep mine off, since i have a bunch of projects i have to do, its a hassle taking it off and putting it back on.

The car is my mother's. I do the oil changes when I'm in town but usually it goes to places like "5min oil changes" to get the oil changed.

Most likely, one of those places have them.

Whatever.. Not too worried.
