need a pathfinder engine...please advise

i am looking at a 2001 pathfinder in mint condition. only thing is the engine is shot. owners son did not top up the engine-oil and so the engine knocked.

Can some please tell me what kind of engine is in the 2001 pathfinder and what other model engines can fit it.Also, please can someone advise me on how much a rebuilt/remanufactured engine would run and much to get it installed. am thinking its worth it if the total cost to buy and install the engine is $2000 or less.Also, i would appreciate it if anyone knows where to find a rebuilt/remanufactured engine that will work with this car. I am located in toronto, ontario, canada.And i dont mind a high mileage engine as long as it runs fine and was maintained properly..Please advise.

A "Buy It Now" engine on Ebay will run about $1700, typically about 50-70,000 miles.

can someone tell me whether a 99 pathfinder engine will work with the 2001 pathfinder?its the late model 99 model which started the new look like the 2001.thanks

No, a '99 engine is a VG33E, the '01 uses a VG35. Very different engines.

If you can't do it yourself, I'd say it's not worth it. VQ's aren't cheap IIRC.

I'm pretty sure it'd be cheaper to buy a working 2001, unless they're offering the shell for just about nothing.

since its the engine alone,i think you might wanna contact some japanese imports shop.You could find a "jdm" vq35de for about $2000 most also come with most hardware required for a swap like alternator,ecu and what not....since you already have that it could get cheaper
