Hello,

let me start off by saying that in the world of Nissan I am a dumbass. Now that that's out of the way lets get started!

So, I replaced my thermostat and have had s***loads of trouble since. First off, since embarking on this journey, I have managed to break every bolt into the t-stat housing but have been lucky enough to get them out ( three separate times, broke a bolt each time ) i'm not sure why these bolts are so brittle, I dont apply much pressure. Secondly, I've tried applying my own gasket, and a gasket off of a sentra and every time I put coolant in it just starts pouring out of the thermostat housing. Lastly, the last time I thought I had it, I was tightening all of the bolts down when the water outlet that connects to the thermostat housing cracked, and subsequently, broke off completely. So, I need to find another one but I dont know where to get one, or who makes a replacement.

If you guys could Help I would appreciate it so much. for the thermostat housing bolts I've been using M6 1.0 16mm's to replace the factory bolts that broke, I'm not sure if those are good enough of not but iI would appreciate the appropriate bolt length/dimensions if you guys could.

EDIT-------- this is on a 1991 Nissan 240sx with a red top SR20DET

M6-1,0X20MM is right for the replacement bolts. I had that problem and had to redo the water outlet neck. I thought that the problem was when I applied the gasket and pushed the outlet back on to the block which seemed to squish most of the gasket out from the edges of the outlet so when I redid it I didnt immediately press it all the way to the block. I pressed it almost all the way but not quite and let the gasket thicken for a minute or so before pressing it all the way on and putting my bolts back in. After I redid the gasket this way it has sealed perfectly all the way around.

Nissan quit making the S13 SR water outlets so if you need a S13 water outlet check all the 240SX forum classifieds but if you want a new neck then you'll have to get a S14 waterneck. The cheapest that I have found has been $59 from WestCovina Nissan(Mynismo.com).
