I tried to turn the engine on but only hear click noises. I sporadically suceeded turning the engine on past two days.

I jumped the battery cable going into the starter solenoid and the cable coming out of the solenoid. Well, I see sparks but I don't see the starter motor running... I guess the whole starter motor unit is goner...

I need to take the starter motor off the engine but I can't find the related info on the 89 240sx FSM. I only found two construction diagram. Any one know how to do this or know what the real problem of this?

Well I am not sure if the 89 is like my 91 or not...but for mine its a 1/2 inch nut that holds the positive lead from the battery to the solenoid...(make sure you disconnect the battery neg first).. and pull that large wire out of the way..I can do this from above or below...then from under the car there are two 14 mm bolts that go through the transmission into the starter...the bottom one is easy to spot .. the upper one you may have to feel around for..but it is there...then wiggle the starter out of the transmission and manuever it out through the area between the engine and suspension. I am having the same kind of prob with mine...except my problem is with the wire that goes from the solenoid into the starter itself.

Good luck and I hope this helps ya.

Thanks!

How will I deal with the starter motor armature gear that engages the flywheel? Will it give its way out if I wiggle the body of the starter?

And BTW do you know the price on the starter motor models on s13? Went to Strauss Auto only to find out that solenoid alone is $150 and starter unit is $120...

You will have to pull the starter forward a little and it will pull out of the bell housing...maybe 2-4 inches...and yes...just wiggle and twist a little..plus the weight of it will help to drop it out.

Out here in SoCal they want 200.00 for a new starter..thats motor and solenoid...I am still looking for one. I found a junker for 45..but still not sure its good ya know...
