My center exhaust is rusted up pretty nice, leaking at the flex pipe and the joint where it connects the rear muffler/pipe is completely broken off.

A couple shops qouted me some astronomical prices to replace just the center assembly (rear muffler is new/only a year old)

They also told me in the past any kind of cheap aftermarket made the vehicle run like garbage afterwards...

Any suggestions on any aftermarket brands? Not looking for performance or noise or whatever... just want to keep it as it is...

I had a similar experience a couple of years ago. I just ended up having the shop weld in a new segment of pipe in between the muffler and the resonator for $30.

^^^ Agreed... If i Still lived in VA i could pick any shop and have them do something to "repair" the problem.

Since ive been in the "rape me" state of CT finding a shop to do some actual custom work for a reasonable rate is next to impossible. I know its hard to find anyone to get under the car for $30 bucks, and I dont mind to pay whatever a reasonable price would be.

My cheapest estimate was $1200 and change to replace the mid muffler assembly.

If any of you guys are on here from CT and want to point in the right direction please do so... it would be appreciated.

I used the Bosal parts from Rockauto -- they fit perfectly and they are not very expensive.. The OE system is stainless steel and normally lasts a long time -- it's the bolted connections that fail since they are not SS -- most people have a muffler shop weld them together as the first fix

Since you had one part replaced -- I don't know what they did. The two small OE resonators under the front seats are normally the first to go -- better check to make sure they are OK before you do anything.

Go on the Rockauto website - they have some nice pictures and you can see the whole system -- I replaced the 4 parts behind the CATS .... Just remember the two resonators under the seats are not CATS! -- they are less than $100.00 each and have the fitting for the rear O2 sensors in the front.

try www.autopartswarehouse.com or www.partsgeek.com

I replaced my center muffler and rear resonator assemblies (basically a cat back) with Bosal brand oem replacement on a 97 pathfinder for 200$ shipped. I had to buy 3 gaskets and 6 bolts which cost another 20$ but I was able to do this in my driveway without ramps or a lift saving myself 400$ from the lowest quote in my area.

snewkirk2 --- The catalytic converters are up at the engine -- they are the down pipes.

The two oval resonators under the front seats are NOT catalytic converters -- and they are both prone to split at the seams. Normally they first to go. Unfortunately Nissan uses the pipes in front of both of them to hold the left and right lower O2 sensors. If they were CATS the O2 sensors would be after them. I put the same Bosal parts in my -- I spelled it wrong
