if i take my crank pulley off and throw a new one on, does it mess with the timing? or just put the new one on the same way the old one came off?

If you don't take off the belt and just replace the crank pulley I believe you do not have to retime it. You should check it either way.

well the belt came off. my water pump broke and messed the ribs on the crank pulley up and the belt ended up coming off some how. so i was seeing if i was gonna have to retime the car.

You shouldn't have to.

Takeing just the crank pully off and putting a new one on doesnt effect timeing at all. 240's run off of timeing chains and that is inside the motor. If you remove the crank pull, all you need to do is removed the acceries belts and then unbolt the crank pully. The acceries belts dont need to be in "timeing" anyways. They can be put on at any part of the combustion cycle. replace it, put on new belts, done.
