I did a search and found a few posts on changing the alternator so don't write me off as a newbie. I still can't find any good directions or pics. I've done a lot of work on my '91 240sx, but this is the first time I've worked on an alternator. I have 225,000 miles on my stock KA24DE engine and I believe that this is the original alternator too. It finally died and took my Sears Die Hard battery with it. I've purchased a reman Nissan alternator from a parts store. By the way, I've been driving for the past week on a $30 battery from Wal Mart!!
So now I've gotten all 3 wires off. I removed the throttle body so I could reach the top bolt.
The top bolt has another long bolt crossing it. Is this the tension bolt?
I've loosened it as much as I could but the radiator hose is in the way so it took all afternoon to get it loose. The bolt is really loose now. Do I need to take it all the way off or will the alternator come out when I loosen the bottom bolt? The belt is still tight. The bottom bolt is stuck solid so I sprayed it with WD40 and I'll leave it until tomorrow. I think I'm almost done. Thanks.
