I was underneath my junk/parts car 97 Q and noticed that the transmission pan had "Fluid 35 K" written in "junkyard yellow" paintpen. I was told the engine had 70K on it and I'm thinking that maybe the transmission is replaced as well.

Any guesses/knowledge of what the above code might mean if written by a junkyard?

Usually, around here at least, it means that the transmission came out of a vehicle that had 35000 miles on it.

My guess is whoever serviced transmission at 35,000 miles wrote that at time of service-I doubt the junkyard wrote it, why would they swap transmissions between junkers?

Its for sure junkyard pen, big yellow writing, like all other junk parts I've bought.

my guess would be that the car had the transmission replaced from another junk car THEN got disabled and became a junk car, how ironic if true... lol

I wouldn't pay it any mind and assume (negotiate) for a 70K miles transmission.

Most junkyards dont know about mileage on a car... if it was truely a junkyard part it would have a code number written on it for the core number.

The junkyard your part probably came from may have been a special junkyard where they pull out the part themselves (not the you pick n pull style) and charge near full used price for that stuff.
