Before you even consider either verify the Timing belt has been replaced. The 93's had a non-Kevlar belt that was rated at 65K. 94's and up had Kevlar belts good for 105K.If they have had the belt replaced it was probably with a Kevlar Belt so you should be good.

If they have the dealer service sheet thats a plus.

I'm in Cleveland too, so here is my take on the J30.

I do not see many of them, I was going to look at the one on craigslist when it was posted this week as my cousin was looking for a car. Though I begged her to get it, I really knew it was not for her (three teenaged kids).

These are very solid cars, they do need premium gas and mine gets 17mpg in my daily communte from Cleveland Heights to the near west side. If you fix your own cars you can't do much better than the J30 in terms of cost of ownership vs quality. IF you use the dealer or a chain repair shop, prepare to get bent over. I do have a trusted garage which is very reasonable (Capicioni Marathon Service Station on Bunts & I90) when it's something I don't have time or the tools.

This being Cleveland, these car suck 100% in the snow. Great tires are a must.

That being said, I am right around the corner from Case, if you look at that one I'd be happy to meet you. You could even look over my 97' for comparison sake.

Good luck, and please post back on what those looked like.

Welcome to NICO!!!

Well cared for J30's are very reliable. Buy one that has been well maintained.

Our community has a lot of knowledgble members. Feel free to post. No question is stupid. We're here to help.

Parts for the J are expensive. A lot of parts are J only. Buying from our sponsers can reduce costs significantly. They prece the same OEM Nissan parts cheaper than your local Nissan/Infiniti dealer.

Thank you everyone for your replies.Your suggestions and advice have really helped me make a more informed decision.I will not be purchasing a J30 at this time. With a Cleveland winter just around the corner and pricey repairs I have decided to get an Altima. She too is an older model, a 94, but I think the car is a better fit for my needs.

Maybe I’ll catch you in the Altima Forum!

Thanks again…

You can't go wrong with the Altima. I had a 90 Stanza with the 2.4L I4 and I had it until 180k miles and then the ex-wife got it in the divorce. She ran it for many more years and finally traded it in.

Good luck!
