I was pretty set on getting an Altima Coupe but after totalling it out with tax and everything, it would be around 22k for the 2.5 model. Since I'm paying it in full and I'm not rich, that is a lot to shell out especially for a car that only has 170hp (I live in CA). So my attention turned to an old G Coupe or used Scion (yeah, I know, they're not that great and are everywhere but at least they're cheap and come with 160hp-more bang for your buck). When I say old G, I mean an 03.

So what are the good and bad with the 03 G Coupes? One of the biggest questions I have is are parts really expensive? I'm looking to get a G with 45k miles or less (tough to find when I'm looking for something under 20k). Another question I have is how well do these cars hold up as they age? Are there major problems with the G Coupes? I'm assuming yes since it was the first year they were introduced. Any other info you would like to provide?

Gs are pretty good cars. They don't seem to have problems that are common to any specific year, except some oil comsumption issues with the 05 and 06 and 07 rev-up motors (298HP 6mt) and Infiniti is pretty much working through those issues.

Minor things go wrong just like any other car, but there's no major issues that I recall. It all depends on how the car was driven and how it was (if it was) serviced. I'd look for an 5AT if I was looking for an 03, only because the 6mt guys seem to drive their cars a little harder. (a lot harder actually).

Good luck and look around the other G forums in this section and you'll get a better idea what people are saying.

Good luck.

Search the forums for info. All years have their +'s and -'s...I have an 05 and it doesn't burn a drop of oil.

Ditto on my '05.....not a drop.

'03 had issues with the Brembo brakes and excessive brake dust. That is about all I can remember.

Hi guys, thanks a lot for the links. That recall one is really helpful.

"not to be a d!ck, but dont buy a first model year car. you can easily get an 04 coupe for around 17k."

I know 03's aren't exactly the best idea but finding a G Coupe under 20k (total with tax if it's from a dealer) and with 45k miles or less (preferrably within the 30k range) is a tough thing to find in CA. I figure paying more than 18k for a 03/04 G is overpaying and a lot of those 04s with low mileage are around 19k. Thus, I am looking for what I know I can find but that's not to say if I come up with a great deal on an 04 or 05, I won't take it. It's just hard to find a good deal on one that's not a salvage. And you're not being a d!ck, you're just trying to give me your input which I appreciate.

J-Owner, thanks for that info.

well i call tell you i when i bought my g35 2004 coupe it was march 2007.

they wanted 26995 online and 29995 at the lot, i got it for 24500 with dealer fee included. so if they are listing gs in the 19s-low 20s you should be able to cop it for 18k imo.

mine was a 3 year lease vehicle that had 37k, 18inch, bose, wing, 1 year warranty. the only thing i know of is the window actuators break on these cars, ask if it has ever been replaced because if not it will break. both of my windows did, luckily under warranty.

But don't forget, you still have to sit in the scion or look at it eventually. This is where the G35 pwns

Email me. I know of a dealer her in SoCal that can get you an 05 for 18k-19k out the door. Probably with 45k on the odometer (don't worry, you'll still have 15k of warranty left).

lol, yep. True dat. The biggest draw to an Infiniti for me is that sexy interior which is hard to match by other cars in its price range and kills the competition in the 20k range.

Well, I have been keeping a close eye on the Gs in my area and I noticed a spurt of good deals so etschell, looks like you're right about getting a good deal on a G. If I can get the price right, I'm aiming for an 05 now.

Sentientbydesign, if I'm getting an 05, what's the possibility of getting 30k or lower on the mileage? Does that include tax and DMV fees (you said out the door but I wanna make sure)?
