I will try to make this this brief. A quick overview. Couple weeks back driving truck and just cut out and died. Would not start back up. I was getting spark but the flow of fuel was not making it to my carb. After figuring out there was an unknown substance in my tank (looked like cum) no joke I then removed my fuel. Filter the white cup like one with the inlet and outlet and it sit right next to gas tank. Also drained my tank. So long story short with a new fuel filter it was running again. Then once again a few days later died... could not figure it out. Girl friends grandpa helped me and ended up being a little filter that sits inside the fuel inlet tube. It bends 90 degrees downward and the black rubber hose that leaves the mechanical fuel pump attaches to it Its a tiny lit plastic cylinder with a paper like filter. The bolt holding the fuel inlet tube holds inside. Well that had been completely clogged. Cleaned it off started running again. So today it died. And fuel filter by tank was clogged... unclogged it made sure other little filter inside carb was clean and it was and there is fuel coming through mechanical pump and fuel is making it into Carb i Can see inside the little window where the float is that is full.. and it just cranks... Haven't checked spark but I almost positive thats not problem... could it be clogged jets? Idk what else it could be? Plz throw some ideas my way

Check your jets by removing the float bowl then you will be able to see them, anything other than perfectly clean is no good.
I've run into similar problems with mine clogging up filters and as a result it ruined a fuel pump. For the filter inside the tank, you can quickly clear it by blowing air into the line, but the real fix is to replace it and clean the tank out.
In mine I run a filter before the pump and a second filter before the carb, the second filter stays clean but it's cheap insurance for keeping the carb clean at all times, I also run a small pressure gauge right before the fuel inlet so I can see if the fuel is making it to the carb just at a glance, or if a filter is starting to clog because I'll see the pressure drop and slowly rise back up instead of rising instantly and maintaining the pressure.

What's the best way to remove the float bowl? Do I have to remove the whole carb? Cause the float bowl is in the front held on by 4 screws if I'm picturing it right. And will fuel poor out everywhere when I take it off? What kind of secondary fuel filter do you use and what kind of fuel gauge? Can you take a picture... I'm planning on getting a Weber 38 DGES so a second filter and gauge will come in handy. And thank you

I'll take some pics tomorrow to show how mine is set up with the gauge, but the gauge is an inline one which is basically a mini gauge mounted on a set of 5/16" nipples with a 1/8" npt hole to mount the gauge, Spectre makes this setup and I've seen them for sale at Pep Boys... here's a pic of the gauge I installed, but I used a female T fitting so I could mount the nipples 90 degrees instead of 180 so the gauge is right at the fuel inlet to the carb where I can see it easily. http://www.amazon.com/Spectre-Performan ... B000BPZ4SW , Then for fuel filters, the Fram G2 or G3 inline fuel filters is what I use, they're cheap and can be replaced in 5 minutes or less. I just put one of these filters inline before the fuel pump, and the other one I just cut the line going up to the intake manifold and installed a second filter there.

For the Hitachi carb, your fuel bowl is up front and held in place by either 3 or 4 screws depending on which carb yours has and it will dump out a small amount of gas (about 6 ounces) when you remove that end plate. Some models this whole plate is glass which makes inspection very easy, but most of them are metal with a small glass window just big enough to see the float inside. You should be able to remove the plate without taking the carb off, but watch out that the float pin don't fall out since the plate is what keeps this pin in place, Normally it'll stay put but if you bump the float or remove the float to make an adjustment it can fall and get lost so just be aware that it's there and you'll be ok.

Right now I'm running a Weber 32/36 DFAV on mine and fuel pressure is critical to these carbs proper operation as you don't want the pressure over 4 psi or under 2 psi so you'll want a low pressure gauge that reads from 0 to 15 psi to make reading the pressure more accurate and easy.
