If the corrosion/rotting is at either end of the cable and replacing it is out of the question because of the cost, you should be able to buy crimps and more cable at a good auto parts store (Tognotti's) and splice in a new section of cable. I bet the price of new insulated cable, a crimping tool and a couple of crimps and end connections would be cheaper than buying a new cable from the stealership.
