I have a mechanical problem with the shifter on my late 92 Q45a. Total milage 104K. I have had lots of work done on this car in the last 6,000 miles. Valve job, all new rubber vacuum lines, hoses, rebuilt/nitrogen gas in the suspension system, new fuel pump. Nothing done to the transmission.
The button on the top of the shifter will not depress to put the transmission into park. 2 different mechanics have assured me that it is not a transmission problem. I now remember that I had the problem a number of months ago, but I wiggled the shifter for a couple of minutes and it started working again. This time, with no warning, it would not go into either park or reverse. However, when I was demonstrating the problem to the 1st mechanic, it started going into reverse without pushing the button on the top of the shifter. So now it will go into reverse, even though pushing the button does nothing (the button will not depress), but it will not go into reverse.
The second mechanic has tried to find a used shifter, with no luck. Is the shifter repairable? Anyone with a shifter for sale?
