Noticed power steering fluid leak, appears to be coming from area of the power steering pump, rack is dry.Downloaded factory shop manual but it didn't help much as far as removing and replacing pump. What is the best way to access the pump for removal, are there any other manuals that explain R and R of pump. How long should it take? I just bought the 2002 QX4 last year with 72K miles on it and a clean car facts but don't PS pumps generally last the life of the vehicle.I did notice the serpintine belt seems very tight (possably the cause?). Note:also getting exhaust leak from front cats. Any common problems to look for or preventive maintanance?Any help would be appreciated thank you.

a chiltons or haynes manual will come in handy for replacing that pump-local parts store should have one. before you go doing unneccessary work, make sure the leak isnt from a bad hose or possibly the cap. hoses usually fail before the pump itself.

I replaced the ps pump on my 02 pathfinder because it was leaking out of the shaft(pully) seal. It was an easy job once I found the mounting bolt that you have to access through the hole in the pulley. You do not have to remove the pulley as the new one should come with one.

for how much you bought the pump.

is there any way re build it by replacing seals. my mechanic says it cannot be rebuilt, I have to replace the pump.
