While this isn't exactly the answer you are looking for, I have an air compressor that says it requires 15 amps and it works fine through the cigarette lighter outlet in the front of my 2006 M45 w/ Premium Package (never tried it in the 12V aux outlet in the rear). However, I think some other people with the same model year indicated they had problems, so it may be hit and miss for 2006 (or the "15 Amp" compressors). If the same is true for 2008, then you'd just have to try, keeping in mind that you shouldn't have to do more than replace a fuse if it doesn't work. If you would need to put in a larger fuse you might melt some wiring or something, so I wouldn't recommend trying that, and you could check to see how it is fused now, or maybe someone else will be able to chime in and answer that.

You'll be fine as long as you don't run it for an extended period of time and you're not inflating something that requires a HUGE amount of pressure. Also if it's one of those units that have multiple features such as a light, flashing lights etc don't use all at once. I really doubt the compressor portion is using the full 15 AMPS.

I realize this isn't an answer to the amp question. I really hate to do anything with my cig lighter aside from keeping my phone charged. The bluetooth really zaps battery life on long trips. I keep a portable tire inflator in my trunk that doesn't require power from the car. I charge it up from the house when it gets low and it holds the charge months. It has a meter on it to assure you're at the right PSI. Mine is a black & decker and I think it was about $80 but it also has other features. However I found a more economically priced unit just now on Ebay if you're interested.

It's more costly than the typical car-powered units, but the last thing I want is to get a flat tire in the middle of the night on a road trip in the middle of nowhere, hook up a car-powered inflator, and blow a fuse. Then I'm left with a flat tire AND a blown fuse.

Agreed ... :yesnod

Below are the items I have. I check and set tire pressure every 2 to 3 weeks - weather temperature changes and normal leaks will cause changes over time. BTW, the absolute accuracy of the gauge I use is not as good as the 0.1 psi resolution it has, but my main reason for having it is that the relative measurement is good at 0.1 psi ... the actual pressure is adjusted for each set of tires with readings from an accurate tread depth gauge to get the right wear behavior on my cars.

Both are expensive, but maintaining the correct pressure is essential to good tread wear, handling, etc.

FWIW, the Bon-Aire compressor I have is no longer available as far as I can tell, but there seems to be a similar - maybe even better - model here: http://www.amazon.com/Goodyear-i8000-12 ... 2FInflator

And, as always, remember to set the pressure when the tire is cold ... like first thing in the morning, inside your garage, or before the sun gets a chance to warm the tire too. :yesnod

Also, here is the tread depth gauge I use: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0015D ... UTF8&psc=1

Yes, it is overkill, but nice to be precise! :)

As advertised, most AccuTire tire pressure gauges have accuracy rate within 0.05PSI - the highest I've know so far. However, as far as experienced is concerned and as far as the number of gauges I tried, I can see a higher percentage of inaccurate results within these AccuTire siblings. My family has a mobile mechanic shop and we had ordered a handful of them after falling to great reviews on Amazon. Unfortunately, within a few months of use, we then encountered a few inaccuracy between them to up to 2PSI - 4PSI, dead battery or maybe they were just broken. That's the kind of same thing you posted above that we ordered before. I know they also offer money back guarantee but it was such a pain in the as* explaining what had happened. At the end of that day, we didn't get our money back!! Such a shame!
We have a handful of tire gauges here as well, but they didn't seem to cause headaches to us every time we use them.
Lessons learned. These things broken easily therefore we're most likely looking for an honest money-back guarantee option for most of our gauges.

Try to ask their respective store before pulling the plug though. They might be changing without notice.
