If you read between the lines it almost says the first gen is better liked.

I noticed that too. Its seems they believed Nissan tampered with perfection.

It seems they like the newer one, but they shouldnt have messed with some of the other features..

I still dont understand why they put a less powerful engine and better styling... If they would have left the original 90-93 drivetrain in the 94s.... That would be golden..... Plus I like 90-93 seats better.....

Yeah, I think this guy liked the 1st gen more. Which we've discussed on NICO before. The 1st gens are more muscle, but have thier problems. The 2nd gens have less muscle, but they fixed transmission problems, chain guide problems, and added some comforts. Over the LONG haul, the 1st gen had it's problems.

I'd still like to have one through!

If you read the article and compare it to other articles on Q45.org, youll see that the 1/4 mile only had .2 second difference...

From 1990 road and track (Q45 vs LS400)

0-60- 6.91/4- 15.4 @ 93.5

From this article (1994 Q45t)

0-60: 7.11/4- 15.6

That being said, ill defend my Green Machine against any 9093 fanboy

I did notice the MPG in the article. I'm hitting 12-13 city. Must have probems.

Forgot about this one. Seems to me they like the later Q45a best, but prefer the later G50 for the improvements made. Note there is no mention of any camshaft timing chain guide issues.

BUT.. If you read the owner reviews, one person said "I dont like what theyve done to my car"... Ill admit, they could have done better with the stuff they did to the 94s... I think the styling was a good move, but the detuning, and the different seats.....

They are columnists, not owners.

Low end performance is enhanced by head/intake port/injector redesign, with little sacrifice at the top end. Most decrease in performance comes from added weight. For a daily driver, I'll take the later ones. For a screamer, I'll take a lighter two door car.

Truer words have never been spoken.. Never was the Q45 intended to be a screamer... Its still faster than most luxo-boats on the road.....

well said Brian!if ultimate speed is your goal, plenty of true performance cars to choose from,a 4200 pound sadan,is not the best choice,by far.for a luxury tourer, the redesign fits the bill better.

WHY oh WHY did they screw with the seats? C&D describes the original ones very well... "cradled by the hand of God." For a great example of perfect 90-93 Q45 seats, ask Tim if you can park your bottom in his Q. Theyre nothing short of amazing. The 94-96 seats are -very- comfy but you feel like youre sitting on top of them and not in them.

When youre in a perfect original G50, you feel like youre in some magical divine place. A slice of heaven on earth.

Otherwise I like the visual sprucing that came in 1994. I like the grille and the extra brightwork all over is very nice. Cant argue with a quieter ride, better sound system, and (most importantly) updated chain guides. However, I hate what they did to the headliner in 94.

The 94-96 isnt uninspired. Its just more inspired by Toyota (and luxury).

The 90-93 puts you in a magical place. The 94-96 is quite impressive, but you always feel like a little something is missing. Its like strawberry ice cream without actual strawberries in it. Sure, the flavor is all there, but the sensations are entirely different.

I like Fred's idea. Get a 1990 Q45 and have it fully restored, then love the hell out of it.

Bingo!! And that's what I'm doing. I'm getting almost 17 MPG city and a little over 19 MPG HWY and that's with my current leaky injector. The power is incredible and even with my active suspension not being 100%, it still rides better than most other cars I've owned.

I'm glad you guys enjoyed the article. I'll send more as soon as I find them. This car magazine organization project has been cool. To look at all the cars I use to read about brings back the memories.

I kinda disagree with you there.. Someday, id like to upgrade to 90-93 seats.. The 95 seats are better than 94s...

The 9093 feels perfect, but I just like the 94 better.. There is more of a feeling of warmth.. Everything may feel perfect, but jesda is right..... Then again, i dont really have a normal 94 so i cant compare it...

I still think i like my 94 better than any 9093 that Ive driven...

Notice also they did pick up on the rotor warping. I used to be in those dealerships every day doing the wood kits. In service they were rotating rotors quicker than they did oil changes. They used to have stacks of 40 or 50 of them just sitting ready to be installed.
