A 1300 foot asteroid will pass between the Earth and the orbit of the moon.

If I can find some online info/tracking sites I'll post them up.

It's all just a big warm up for Apophis in the coming years I suppose.

"A rock the size of an aircraft carrier". I wonder what they'll estimate its mass to be?

Haha good one, Thats exactly what I thought of.

I was kind of hoping I could see it with my little beginner telescope, but I see that itll be impossible to find. Any chance it will pass in front of moon?

Is it bad if I just found out there was a science section :couch

Here's NASA's page on the approach with the details of our observations plans.

You'll need a pretty good 'scope, NASA is recommending a 6 inch aperture for amateur observers. And it won't pass in front of the Moon...approach angle is all wrong. This is from JPL's NEO tracking site...

I know I read the homepage. Ok, I didnt think it would pass through the orbital plain perfectly. This is exciting though... close calls always are. Ill have to read that Apophis page sometime when I get the time

Apophis summary: It will have a high suck probability or a low suck probability, depending on what we learn in the future.
